I had a friend just shoot me an email saying Memphis would announce they are joining the Big East tomorrow. He's a die-hard Tiger and knows quite a bit, so I don't doubt him but wonder if anyone has heard anything official because I don't see it.

It would make sense, I think.

Geez, their conference scheduling for basketball would be even more of a headache.

Makes sense for their basketball program and lets them start playing yearly with louisville again

I'd think though we'd have heard some more about it before now if it were going to happen

He says it will be announced tomorrow and they will start with football in 2011. True or not - no idea. I'm just seeking some validity to it.

I think this would be a good move for memphis and the big east... they just better stay away from our recruits...

I do not believe they could take Memphis w/o increasing or decreasing by one more school. Who is in, or out??? :) Furthermore, where does the odd man out go to or come from? Is this conference realignment thing in football and basketball getting started again???

i think its a perfect fit...good bball schools...i think this might help us get better bball recruits bc memphis is not going to be winning 30 games anymore playing in the big east...

BE only has 8 football schools and the coaches complain that some schools get 3 home/4 away while others get 4 home/3 away. They want a 4 home/4 away setup to make it fair for all teams. That would be feasible with 9 FB teams.

As for the legitimacy of the rumor, the city has been buzzing with the "news" but I wouldn't hold my breath. I guess we will see tomorrow.

Wasn't this supposed to be true 2 months ago during all the conference expansion hoopla?

not really, it was a predicted move people were thinking the big east would potentially have to make after the big 10 and possibly ACC were to absorb a bunch of their teams

I believe that Gary Parrish, national basketball writer for CBS and local radio host has already debunked this rumor. Says BE will not announce any new teams this week.

The ACC had 9 members from 1991 to 2004. They seemed to work it out.

Tell your friend he's an idiot.

Memphis needs to join a BCS conference and Big East needs more teams in FB. Why the hell not?

Tiger High fans felt slighted when they got passed over for Louisville, Cincy, etc back in 05.

ECU, Memphis, UCF, and Navy should all join the Big East.

GOOD! This will mean Memphis doesn't just get an inflated top seed for beating crap teams. I know see how this can help Memphis in a basketball sense. There recruiting can't get much better so this is just going to cause them to lose more games. Good news for Tennessee.
