Where did that come from?

Virginia: The Daily Progress reports BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall is the new head coach at Virginia. Mendenhall is 99-42 in 11 seasons at BYU. More coming on CoachingSearch.com.

Did not expect UVA of all programs to make even a basic competent hire, much less a good one. What a steal.

I'm shocked. Wasn't BYU his alma mater?

Maybe he felt he had hit the ceiling there.

I never foresaw him leaving BYU and especially not for the East Coast. Hell of a hire from X&O's standpoint. Recruiting and relationships will be the only question mark.

I don't think Mendenhall got along with everyone in the Administration at BYU. That coupled with what was most likely a significant pay raise (BYU doesn't report coaches salaries last I heard) I can see how this would happen. Still surprising, though.

He's only 49..younger than I thought..I thought he might leave but I thought it might be a PAC-12 school..his only job that wasn't out west was in 97 when he coached DBs at LATech

One of the three best hires so far. Like most, I never thought he'd leave for and East coast job. Great coach.
