Michael White (La Tech)

All you can do is grade the hire as it stands today. IMO Jones has been a solid 8.5-9 out of 10. Recruiting coming off the Dools era, he is an 11.

Yes, but that doesn't mean he's a "home run hire" by any means, which is what I keep seeing written about him.

Hence why I say the jury is still out. People were still excited about Dooley after his first season too.

who's to say Dave Hart isn't being hand tied on the buyout? this may be coming from higher up the COC? Pun not intended...

I'd give it a 5 out of 12

Lol.

It's sad when our own fans only see the Ws and Ls and don't even factor in how murderous the schedule was.

It won't be any better this year either.

IMO, beating everyone we were supposed to, along with the eventual #4 team in the country with a roster that contained about three total playmakers (North, Sutton, and AJ), two of whom were freshmen, is worth more than a 6/10.

The only loss that's iffy is Vandy, but we were playing our 4th string QB and North was hurt.

Despite that, we were still in position to win the game. Pig doesn't block in the back, and there's a good chance we finish 7-6.

I get that Butch doesn't have the Ws you want yet. But people who say that he hasn't done enough yet are the same ones who will probably be calling for his head if we miss another bowl this year, despite another brutal schedule. You have to admit that he has completely changed the culture of UT football and is recruiting at a level we haven't seen in years. That's pretty much all he can do right now until the roster is in competitive shape again.

I was joking. I love Butch and have no doubt that he will be highly successful here

They are in bash the UT brass mode. If they want to bash Hart, they have to consider Jones a "wait and see". With where Dools had UT football when Jones walked in the door, IMO the man is killing it to date. I'm not going to sit back and twist it to fit an agenda. All you can do is rate the hire based on what he has done since walking in the door. IMO Jones has been a huge hire and a good 1.

I think you looked a bit too deep into his answer.

Man.. Anyone who thinks Hart is as incompetent as Hamilton needs to actually learn what it is an athletic director is hired to do. Hamilton drove our financial reserves into the ground with irresponsible spending, and Hart is having to rebuild them. This is done through moves little moves like switching our game from Saturday to Sunday to get a bigger slice of the SEC Network money. Hart is really good at what he does. Maybe his hiring process can be critiqued but he gets money for universities. That is his job and he is really good at it.

No, I'm not in to bash the "UT brass". The fact is the results are on the field, wins and losses. I think he's done a good job and great in recruiting, and he has the fan base excited. But this season is going to likely be rough as well, and you know as well I do there will be grumbling again if we go 5-7 (a real possibility).

And even though I think he's a vastly better coach that Dooley, that doesn't change the fact that much of what was said about Jones was said about Dooley, even after his first season.

So you can claim I just want to "bash the UT brass", but I call it logical. This is back to that middle ground this fan base has so many problems with. Either someone is an off the charts great coach or they suck.
