As I read it, the recommendations are actually the product of a committee.

I think the most direct and effective measure the government can take is in the school system--serving healthier food and promoting more exercise.

I don't know that enhanced labeling requirements will make a big dent in child obesity, but I think its a worthwhile move to make anyway--if, for no other reason, because I'd like to know what I'm eating.

The task force wants junk food makers and marketers to go on what amounts to an advertising diet. It says media characters that are often popular with kids should only be used to promote healthy products. If voluntary efforts fail to limit marketing of less healthy products to young viewers, the task force suggests the FCC should consider new rules on commercials in children's programming. It also challenges food retailers to stop using in-store displays to sell unhealthy food items to children.

We'll only use words as persuasion - until you don't comply then we'll use regulation to shut down your advertising. Have a nice day.

BTW, they figured out just what happened to cause the 1,000 pt dow drop, it wasn't a fat finger and it wasn't hedge fund short sellers.
