Im as much of a Tennessee fan as anyone but to say that UT is a better or as good of a program as Michigan is very debatable imho. And regardless of which side you would lean towards I dont see how anyone could disagree with wanting to be comparable to the Michigan wolverines.

Currently UT is way worse than Michigan, but that's not saying that Michigan is some lofty goal to be attained.

Michigan is a very average team in a terrible conference, I mean this year they were a historically bad conference. Michigan would be on par with say Miss. St. in the SEC. I'm pretty sure Michigan could not beat Bama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, or USC. So why would we want to be like them?

Miss St. and Michigan are good, but I dont think we ought to think that this level of success is where UT needs to be or has been in the past.

I can really see how a decade of sub-par performance out of UT has raised up a generation of kids that think being a middle of the pack football team is a goal of University of Tennessee football.

Boy, the standards have really fallen.

I was thinking more in the historical context. When I was growing up Michigan was always in the hunt. The same with Tennessee.

Is our goal to be like Michigan? To get the crap kicked out of us by Alabama and Ohio State?

Michigan lost every tough game they played and will most probably lose to USC in their bowl. Their toughest win was against Northwestern. Yes, I said Northwestern (the Vanderbily of the Big10). Every other team they beat was 6-6 or worse. They almost got embarrassed at home to Air Force.

I'm not trying to be negative, but I cant say that I'm happy if our goal is to be like Michigan.

I would have rather tried to be like Ohio State or Alabama or Notre Dame.

Sorry, that's just me.

At no point in his OP did I see that he thought the goal of the team was to be like Michigan. He was pointing out what he thought were the similarities of how both schools were going through the same challenges of finding a head coach and how the fan base was up-in-arms over the hire of a lesser known name coach than the high profile mentioned names and not willing at first to give them the chance to make a difference on the field. Not that youre being negative I just think you misunderstood what he was trying to say. I personally think it was a great post and he got his point across perfectly to most who have read it. :twocents:

Wow, went from a rational post about how things might turn around to hating on Michigan...I think some folks missed the point to all of this.

Great post! It is an excellent reminder that every program has its ups and downs. It's the way up that's the fun part. I look forward to the ride.

And as far as uniting the fan base...CBJ is already proving that he will at least attempt to do that by interviewing Tee.
