Wow, I didn't realize the Vols were so down in rebounding. MSU always hits the glass hard, so that gives me some confidence even with our injuries.

Our margin is not big no, but we have done better in the tournament of outrebounding our opponents the past two games. Outrebounded Ohio 39-29 and Ohio State 36-23. We got outrebounded by one in our first game. So...outrebounded our 3 opponents by 24 rebounds...that comes out to about 8 rebound margin in the tournament. Whereas Michigan State in the Tourney is averaging a little over 10. Michigan State is a great great great rebounding team, easily their best strength. BUT...Chism and Williams are playing their best basketball right now. It will be a great game.

Izzo is one of the greatest coaches and motivaters in all of college basketball and has been for years. Bruce Pearl has the same qualities and in my opinion is an elite coach in the same category as Izzo. We are going to get to see a great battle on Sunday, because these players are fired up and ready. I have expressed my feelings on the players in other posts and I believe this is our year, if we come together as a team, to make all the "experts" swallow their tongues. Go Vols! Go Coach Pearl and all the players all the way to the Championship!

If we are gonna strike fear into everyone (including UK) then we need for Wayne and Brian to continue playing like they have been, we need the defensive intensity we had tonight, and we need for Scotty Hopson to turn it on.

This game resembles the SDSU game IMO, great rebounding team, athletic, but thin at point guard...though I think SDSU may have been a little longer than Mich State and Mich State is better from 3

I hope JP gets rested before Sunday, he looked pretty winded at the end of that game

JP Prince played his heart out. I am so glad I can say that, there was no showboating/chest pounding nonsense. He went out there and took care of business and played to where he fully exerted all his energy. Great game JP

Down in rebounding?

You have to realize what down in rebounding means to Michigan State fans. We're number 1 in rebounding margin nationally and I consider it sort of an off year rebounding wise...especially on the defensive glass. Rebounding drives our defensive choice (you won't see zone). Rebounding drives our fast break. Offensive boards drive our offensive efficiency; we're getting about 45% of our missed shots on the year. We're 23-4 this year when winning on the boards, but only 4-4 when we get out rebounded.

Spartan basketball is sort of a cult of the almighty rebound. Worship services are held at the glass. :bow2: All references to rebounding are susceptible to that bias.

I for one have really really been proud of the way our free throw shooting has been. I don't say "oh no" when someone goes to the line anymore. It used to be a weak point, but it's gotten better.

UT better be ready to bang and hit the glass or we will get beat--mark it. MSU rebounds like Pat Summitt's teams rebound--it's one of their things. We will not push msu around inside as we did that soft osu squad, or if we do I will be VERY surprised. Izzo's teams are always very //tough-minded//--and the Vols need to gird for a battle. If we rebound well, we can win the game--but the board action will be key. As someone said, Chism and Williams both need another big game.

Izzo is as good as it gets when it comes to coaching in March. He is one helluva game-planner. MSU will be prepared tomorrow and it should be an amazing game. If we have the focus and intensity(especially on the offensive glass) we will win the game. We are the better team, but this is March and anything can/will happen. I can't wait for it and here's to celebrating another first in UT men's b-ball history tomorrow evening...GO BIG ORANGE!!!!
