Michigan taking the next step in flipping commits

While I agree with your sentiments, this is one of those situations where we shouldn't be throwing stones from our glass house.

I believe Nico was the first big time "bonus baby" wasn't he?
Yeah I remember people on here wanting Arch Manning and some folks were like we will be fine we got the Nico kid from California. The ones that wanted Arch some were saying what makes you positive he will honor his commitment? Those of us who followed the story knew that the package was borderline impossible to pass up dwarfing all other NIL compensation to players out there. We started it out of desperation of being so long without a potential game changer QB out of High School our friends of the program went all in on Nico. So I agree with you we can't throw stones. Lol

I know that - but it is the state of things these days.

I am okay with college players taking advantage of their success on the field to secure endorsements. It is just that like with the coaches these agreements probably should come with expectations.

As for throwing stones, I am one that has always believed that the NIL should be the result of what the players actually brings to the table verses what it has become.

Has that ever been truly proven?

I thought the contract was out there somewhere?

In the end, does it matter if it's true or not? Neither Nico nor UT have said a peep to deny it have they?

I believe that the deal was done for the obvious reason of getting Nico but also to say "we're coming" to recruits.

He was the first we knew about and identified by NIL legally.
"Bonus Baby" is not the right term.

College players sign contracts to play in the NFL at premium rates.
HS to college with NIL just creates a stepping stone in NIL

Problem is that their needs to be a Team CAP and the NCAA is not the organization capable of monitoring it.

I’m not laughing at them. I honestly feed bad for them and as a Vol fan, know exactly what they’re going through. Kelly lasts another season, tops.
It’s very close to Tennessee’s situation with Chris Simms 20+ years ago. Committed on national tv to nations #1 team at the time Tennessee but later flipped to average Texas team. Not saying it set the program back much ( Clausen was a better college QB) but it was a kick in the nuts for awhile.

Seems like I remember Major Applewhite being better than Simms as well. They were forced into starting Simms because of the name and prestige.

Even the pros don't cap NIL nor even try. They cap SALARIES, so make "college" athletes into "pro" athletes and negotiate with the union to cap salaries.

Other than that, look for more big offers to sign and flip with outside NIL deals. The useless NCAA "$20M team cap" is hilarious because outside NIL deals still can't be touched.

That AND they need to be signing contracts with the University. That will help kill the portal (hopefully)
