His actions are the opposite. He's extending both entitlements and direct cash transfers to 1/2 the country. Every action he's taken has increased the flow of funds from taxpayers and borrowers to other citizens via tax cuts, credits, bailouts, expansion of services, grants, mortgage modifications, cheap loans, etc.

He advocates fairness as more taxes for the rich and more government support for the "middle class".

You can't seriously claim the guy is working to reduce an entitlement society.

Post was spot on. It would be pretty stupid to believe this woman just developed such an attitude in the last three years. It's likely she has felt this way for a long, long time.

I don't disagree with this assessment, but it has nothing to do with such an isolated case. What I am saying is that Obama didn't cause this woman to develop her entitled attitude.

Whether YOU believe it or not, Obama has not supported the notion that you can walk down to the welfare office and start collecting a check just because you don't want to work. That's BS

But look at the first paragraph - how did she develop that attitude? All the rhetoric (it's not your fault; greedy rich banks, corporations, speculators are to blame) and all the "programs" to "help" are engraining that attitude.

If he wants to build self-reliance he's doing it all wrong and making the problem worse rather than better.

How could he build self-reliance? Taking her off of welfare completely? Or cutting back the amount she gets? I mean, she has probably been on the program so long that it has become a way of life...not that that is the right way to do it. But it has gone on for far longer than Obama being president. I just wish people would stop saying it is all Obama's fault these people abuse the system.

I don't believe anyone has said this is all Obama's fault. However he has done nothing to change the thought process and his programs seem to actually encourage it. It will take a long time to wean people off govt assistance but it doesn't appear that will start until he is out of office (if it actually ever does)

1) Stop telling people that their situation is because of someone else - e.g. bankers, oil companies, speculators, people playing politics, etc.

2) Stop addressing every problem by creating new or extending existing entitlement programs.

It is not his fault - no argument. However, he's perpetuating the problem and creating the next wave of people with this attitude. He's stretching government teet further up the income level to bring more and more people into the government goodie fold.

If he wants self reliance he's doing it wrong.

Man, why couldn't I win that million? I would do much more with it than blow it all while collecting food stamps. I wouldn't even consider quitting my job. Even if I won some mega million jackpot of 100 million, at most I would go part time, or work full-time for a charity.

I just don't understand how people can sit around and do nothing all day. I would go nuts.

I know several people here in Michigan who would probably do the same thing this woman is doing. The entitlement mentality here for a large percentage of the people is absolutely ridiculous. And they feel they have the right to call the South a land of fat, lazy hicks. HA!

Of course he wants people on welfare. What part of liberal/socialist policy do you not understand. In order to move this country towards true socialism it requires most everyone be on some sort of gov't assistance. Convincing people they can't make it on their own without it.

Besides, what Barack do and what he says are 2 different things. He also said he was going to have the most ethically reformed administration yet more than half of his 2008 big fundraisers have (suprise!) administration jobs.
