From a football standpoint, it would suck if he was forced to retire. Guys like Leach, Kiffin, and Spurrier are great to have in the league - they're solid, winning coaches and bring some spice and variety.

He was stabilized and airlifted out of Starksville to Jackson.

I'm doubtful that's because of a throat cancer diagnosis.

I am told that Coach was successfully Air Lifted to Jackson on an Airbus Helicopter H145. There was a delay in getting airborne due to some weather, but they were able to find a window and got him down there safely.

From what I am told, the next few hours are critical. Coach has a long road ahead of him. The situation is very, very serious. If you are the praying type, Coach Leach, his family and the attending physicians could use your prayers. If you are not the praying type, then perhaps you can make an exception in these circumstances.

This is not some fire drill or something that just involves a cough. Coach needs your prayers and he needs them right here and now.

This may turn out to be something very serious, or maybe, hopefully, just a false alarm. But this is the time for all of his haters to stand your ground and be silent. He is a first ballot hall of famer, and has contributed more to college football than probably anyone living today. There is not a coach currently existing who is more innovative and sly than Mike Leach, and his value to the game is irreplaceable. Hopefully he will push this one out and return, and if he does, the sport will be better for it. Long live the pirate!
