I know what he said, and he's about as respected and admired as any coach ever...But if Mel Tucker got 9.5 mil and LSU allegedly just offered Lincoln Riley 12, if I'm Scott Stricklin and the Bull Gators, I make coach Tomlin turn down 12.5/13 mil a year and complete organizational control, à la Nick Saban.

That's the game changer move.

Think Tomlin has any interest in the college game?

Mike Tomlin has no interest whatsoever in coaching college football, let alone everything that comes along with coaching college football.

Mike Tomlin is among the most tenured coaches in the NFL, and considers it an insult and a step backwards to coach college football.

No amount of money will convince Mike Tomlin otherwise.

Almost certainly true...That's why I'd create a pitch that had absolutely nothing to do with money other than letting his representation know we'd pay whatever is necessary.

That sounds so, so, SO much like coach Tomlin referring to himself in 3rd person... under an alias... on the VN forum. haaahahahahahaaa..... Thanks LW - it's just an epic, hilarious thought.

Let’s hear the pitch....
Well what do we know about coach Tomlin?...We know he's a tremendously respected coach and an even more respected person, that lends maybe to the idea that "molding young men" might be right up his alley, he's as you pointed out a near NFL lifer, maybe he's a little burnt out after being in one place 15 years...It would be something like that, and he'd probably still say no, but if he'd listen he'd be my number one over everyone else.

That’s not a very good pitch.

If Florida is looking at the NFL, maybe someone like Sean McVay of the Rams would listen. Still young (35), considered offensive oriented, and has coached in Florida in the past. Have no idea if he has any interest in college and recruiting.

They need someone who attacks recruiting like Smart does. A staff that knows every hs coach in the I4 corridor plus Jacksonville / Sarasota, and every D1 prospect in those schools.

McVay looks and sounds like a douchebag...Plus I personally believe he's a flash in the pan.

I'm not the one who'd be doing the selling, but I think elements of that would strike a chord with someone like him...Get someone in there with a little more oratorical prowess than random internet guy, and we'll see what can happen.
Had a girlfriend with "oratorical prowess" once......... I miss that girl.. 😎

If true then Oklahoma doesn't have the money to match it. They still haven't filed the formal paperwork with the BIG XII informing them they are leaving the conference. The paperwork must be filled within 27 months of leaving and will cost them $80mm to leave. If they leave before the 27 months then the contract says the BIG XII can name their price.

Texas and OU tried to blow the conference up and leave without paying a penny. The BIG XII added four teams and now has zero reasons to negotiate with either school. Buying back their TV rights ain't gonna be cheap either.

Lincoln Riley is overrated IMO

That isn't how any of this works.

If I’m a successful NFL head coach there’s no realistic amount of money that could get me to go back to college coaching.

If you’re a successful, long tenured coach in the NFL, with one of the most storied franchises in league history, generational wealth already in the bank plus a Super Bowl ring, why in the hell would you…or your agent…take a call from Scott Stricklin?

You’ve already admitted to not knowing much about Tomlin. How would you know what strikes a chord with him?

You’re suggesting the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers consider what equates to a career demotion.

It’s just an absurd premise.

Other than living near New Orleans...I think OU is the better job...guess the equalizer now is that getting to the playoffs will now be harder for them since they are in the SEC
