Military recruiters told they can accept openly gay applicants

Is Obama's DoJ fighting the ruling? Seems like this is an easy out for him.

That's the strange thing. The DoJ has asked for an injunction while this is appealed. The DoJ wants a hold placed until this goes through the appeal process. But then the DoD says to allow gays to apply BUT to tell them that whatever they say can be held against them if the decision is overturned. The Administration is sending mixed signals all while the process is making its way through the judicial branch. And then you have Obama saying he is still pushing for the Congress to pass a law overturning this.

It was only a matter of time before this was going to happen. I don't really care anymore...next.

it's a sad time. I hope it can be overturned.

Were you this upset when they let those dang darkies in the army as well and integrated the armed forces? A gay guy is just as capable of capping a charlie as a straight guy is.

A straight guy is also less likley to stare at your junk while your taking a shower next to him.

Is this why Tiger Woods is on the list of folks against allowing women into Augusta National Golf Club? Not always about color.

Having said that, I don't disagree with the ruling on the surface but also understand the whole new set of complications is presents to the military and it's soldiers.

If a gay guy/girl is brave enough to risk their life defending our country, let them. More than we can say for a lot of us heteros.

I have served with a couple of guys who where no doubt gay. Never had a problem with them "staring" at my junk. You act as though being gay causes them to have some sex crazed appetite that they cant control. I dont have a problem with it at all.

I'm not so narrow minded that I'm totally against it, but It isn't a good thing either. Anything that causes distraction in the ranks "especially in a combat zone" isn't a good thing.

I see what you are saying and tend to agree. Do you think women are just as much as a distraction? Just asking the question

Yes, women are a distraction, but they also keep moral up. Call me what you like, but it's the truth.

I am not calling you anything. I just dont understand how a person being gay would have any implications in a combat situation. To be honest, I would think women would be more of a distraction in combat than gay men. But that is jmo and I do appreciate your opinion of it as well.

I would think gays being able to serve openly would boost theirmorale, rather than being closeted.

I don't doubt there are some things that will have to change because of the ruling, but the thought that allowing gays in the military handicaps are fighting forces is ludicrous. In 10 years people will look back on this like we were crazy for the big deal that was being made by people like joevol.

When blacks were first allowed to serve and units were integrated, I can guarantee you there were distractions. Those guys learned to get over it and now we have many fine soldiers of all colors serving.
