By the way... "When it counted", aka, until we scored the TD to go up 35-0, they had exactly... TWENTY-TWO yards rushing! 22! 22! 22!

I can't emphasize this enough, through 2 and a half quarters...

22 yards.

That's a good rushing D... against a kid that was supposed to be in the running for the Heisman...

And that really is the big stat in my humble opinion. The run sets up the pass and they couldn't get it done on the ground. It was because they were not able to get the run going that we were able to pass rush so well.

I agree with you. Our whole D was off the chain tonight. I just meant our runningbacks... That's all. They are good right now, if they get better Tennessee = SEC East champs. And a very good shot at the BCS.

'Twas. I think that was our big defensive question mark. The secondary was young, but we've all seen that they can play. The more experience, the better. Same thing with the d-line. The linebacking group I was just not sure about... But they answered, and in full force.

I thought the secondary did great. They shut down the Cal receivers plenty of times if not through coverage, by hitting them. There's always room for improvement though.

I honestly think we may have the best d backs we have had in a while and we appear to be as deep with running backs.Oh happy day!

The front 7 got very good pressure early on in the game, but Cal's pass pro really picked up as the game went on...could have also been because we were only rushing the front 4 and dropping more into coverage later also.

Btw- did anyone see early in the game where Justin Harrell completely ate the Cal center's lunch? He just bull rushed straight through him.

Also another thing that was hilarious, later in the game after Ayoob threw an incompletion to the sideline, one of our guys (can't remember who for the life of me) was walking back to the huddle and a Cal receiver was walking in front of him...and he stuck his foot out to trip the Cal player! LOL The guy didn't fall but he turned around really fast and said something to him.

The VOLS were focused and determined to make a statement tonight. It could be me, but I feel we always play better when we are in the underdog role. Before tonight, it was the Miami game (A.K.A "I'm a soldier"..."protect this U", Winslow fiasco) that comes to mind where the handily spanked the highly touted Hurricanes as underdogs.

Overall, the best team effort I've seen in a while from the VOLS.....I personally applaud the defense for shutting down their running duo. Our linebacker squad is no longer questionable.......
Go VOLS!!

Hey Milo... CB Daymeion Hughes disagrees about how we ran today... :p

They got some pressure, but I think the main thing was stopping the run. We didn't do a good job stopping the run. They were running downhill against us for most parts of the game. We've got to be better stopping the run, and that comes down on everybody, not just the defensive line or linebackers, but everybody.

i think our D is pretty strong maybe not as good on the front line as the where last year but when you loose a parys harrelson its hard to replace but they did great! AND OUR OFFENCE IS AMAZING!!! 100 times better than last year. i sat in F row 62 seat 15 right behind the student section near the band it was crazy i loved it
