OK, at risk of a major emotional flame job from more than one here.

Does anyone else here find JM3 a tad on the flippant and maybe immature side? When micd up here and in the Orange Bowl etc, he just seems that way to me.
Trust me, I'm rooting for him to take us to the promised land. But, each time I've seen something like this, he's nowhere near the locked in demeanor of a Hooker, Manning, Clausen, Shuler etc. More like Ainge or Bray to me.

The kind of mentality that you read about the year after busting in the NFL like Leaf or Jamarcus etc. Hopefully this is wrong headed of me, and he simply plays and preps fast and loose!

Thoughts?

I think he just plays really loose/laidback, and that’s just his personality. I don’t see that as a negative. Some guys need their teammates to help them stay loose and not get too uptight when the lights come on. It comes across to me more as he’s confident from putting the work in, and he’s having fun and enjoying the time with his brothers. I think his experiences at Michigan and his first year here losing the job really helped him to mature and realize the opportunity he has as the leader of this team now and he is enjoying every minute of it. I’m excited for this season to start, and expect to see big things from him and the rest of this team.

I could be totally wrong, but I think JM3 has the mentality that it's just a game. He is a grown kid playing ball to entertain the masses.

I also think there is the possibility that he smiles and goofs around to hide the anxiety that comes with the pressure he is under.

I am no psychologist. I like the way he handles himself and I believe he will have a great year as long as he gives his all.

1 of the articles i read quoted Halzle as saying that Joes biggest problem before was being a perfectionist and not being able to "snap and clear" after a bad rep. That he would get frustrated and angry with himself when he made a mistake and let it carry over into play after play which messed him up. Halzle said that once he got Joe in the mindset to relax and let those thoughts and plays go when something didnt work...he settled in and was able to control his emotions/adrenaline greatly improving his accuracy and focus. They want Joe to relax and just have fun playing the game, so it is a good sign IMO that BazookaJoe seems so relaxed on the field. Halzle (and Hooker btw) both said that once Joe learned this offense inside and out it allowed him to relax and just play because he already knows his protections are good, what routes everyone is running, what keys to read, where to look to put the ball against each defensive alignment and WHY strategically the ball should go HERE and not there etc that knowledge is what allows a QB to relax and have fun because they KNOW exactly what to do for the most successful outcomes.

I get where you are coming from with your question...but I think Joe being this relaxed with all that pressure on him as starting QB at an SEC school with the no1 ranked player at QB from the last class as his backup is a great sign. Stressed out, uptight, or looking over their shoulders at the guy behind them are all terrible things for a starting QB. GO VOLS

Intense and locked in doesn't work for everyone. For some that stresses them out and they need to be loosey goosey to perform.

I think he is really that way when mic'd up or the win is in the bag. I think he is all business when needed.

To each his own. Some guys get dialed in by staying out of their own head and some guys get dialed in by getting in it.

Imagine how amped up you'd be if you were in his shoes and are finally getting a chance to start again. Also imagine there's a huge chance that you're about to be a millionaire in about 9 months. I saw a mock draft today that has him going in the top 10.

Saw more a tinge of that in 21. When Swain and Price had him on that inaugural show, I think the original design was for Milt and Cade to be the regulars if not full season. He wasn’t on the show again that season. Nothing he did blatantly wrong, but he wasn’t a natural conversationalist like Mays. In interviews I feel he’d try to portray confidence and it came across as compensating and awkward. Total 180 to present day, imo. If he’s not 100% on something he can gab his way through it.
