Milton thoughts - predictions?

What people don't talk about is the fact that Joe came here in the summer and won the job basically in a month of practice. He didn't have the spring to prepare and build a relationship with receivers and that matters. This is year 3 in the system he will be great.

I expect Milton to do just fine. He will have all the supporting cast around him that he should need. We shall see; just 7 more days.

Milton came here with tons of potential but damaged. Now in his 3rd year under one of the best QB coaches in the game, being able to grow last year mostly out of the spotlight but the at the end was able to put it together when the big game is on the line.

This is not the Joe Milton who ran out of bounds on a final play. Who avoided contact at all costs. Who had no touch on his bullet like throws. That guy has been transformed by CJH into a top level QB - and we will bear witness as Immortan Joe Carries us, all shiny and chrome, though the gates of NC Valhalla.

I grow ever so weary of posting this pic SHOWING WITHOUT A DOUBT, that he did not step out of bounds on that play to avoid contact, but only did so after taking a serious shot to the head and neck area by 35. This is the most referenced non fact in this forum, probably ever.

He missed his chance when he did not bravely chunk a ball towards the endzone which would have protected his molars.

Your other reference to his lack of touch PRIMARILY was on a toss towards the endzone and he WILDLY OVERTHREW a backup tight end...

Once again let's take a look at that grievous error on his part.......NOT. Sorry my screenshot did not show he was 4 inches off the ground when the ball went through his hands.

I knew you'd be along to post this 😎
The Joe stepped out of bounds talk is tiresome. Geezus if the GOAT Tom Brady a NFL player can have a brain fart and think it was 3rd down when it was actually 4th then anyone can make a game time mistake. Heck Dak ran longer on a play than he should've and killed their chance for a last place
Joe can take us to the NC, undefeated and if we were to lose people would still be talking about I knew Joe wasn't it, knew it with all his over throws 2yrs ago and when he stepped out of bounds...

Thank you for your insights Mrs Milton. When your son first came here he was very rough but has improved a lot under a real coach.

Nope, just an old fart that won't let a graphically refutable falsehood about a VFL go unchallenged. I assure you I did not photoshop those screenshots. I bet there have been hundreds of posts with the same erroneous account of the OOB play. I guess many fall prey to the if you see it on the internet, it must be true axiom. Pretty embarrassing actually that they post it, and worse when folks actually defend it as a truth.

I watched EVERY touchdown of EVERY game from 2022… And I have to say that Joe Milton III looked DAMN GOOD! Yeah, some of them were in mop-up duty against lesser opponents, but his arm is phenomenal! And his performances against Vandy and Clemson really stood out. We still have a good stock of receivers & running-backs….. O-line is better than last year. D is definitely improving. I think that his “ceiling” is OVER THE TOP! After 2 years in Heupel’s system, I think he is ready for the Big Time! — I haven’t anticipated a football season like THIS in many years! - Can’t wait to see what happens! GO VOLS!!!!!!

10-2: Plus a major bowl win. And I think we beat either UGA or BAMA!

But, if we beat UGA AND win the EAST - WATCH OUT! I will have to re-access my prediction!…

O-line is NOT better than last years - not by a long shot. I hope Milton can get the job done, but I will have to see it (given his collegiate career).

Fingers crossed - I hope he is wildly successful.

Lots of OL talk in this thread. I agree we MAY not be as good as last year position by position as Wright was one of a kind. However there is a chance as a unit in total they MAY be better. Why? Because Mincey came to us out of Florida, was no slouch, and played pretty well locking down that LT spot last season. So Mincey as good as he is or was found himself this year replaced at LT by an obviously better player at that position (the change came quick) and Mincey being a regular starter at LT moved to what many beleve is his natural position, RT. How did he manage? Well it seems there is somewhat of a tie there with the slightest of shading being suggested we may have a new upgrade in that position as well. Now one more time, Mincey is no slouch, he's a very good player and we're lucky to have him. The wild card of our OL other than Cooper being injured in my head? It is Spraggins. we keep hearing about his mean and nasty streak. So be it young Javontez lhope you win the Conrad Dobler Award as the meanest nastiest OL player in all the land and especially when we play UGA and go for the knees from behind barely getting your helmet ahead so you don't get a penalty of their highly rated DLs you know like they did ours and take them out for a seson or two. Pay back can be a beyotch and Javontez I want a tractor truck load of it when UGA comes to town.

While my memory serves that irrespective of the line, Milton simply screwed the pooch on that play. His overthrows were not merely one errant missile but a number of them and the reputation of “looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane” was earned by his times he had to run it,

Look, I am not knocking on Milton. He came into a tough situation, where we were sick as a team because of Pruitt’s malfeasance. His natural talent got him the starting position early only to lose it because his head was not right. Instead of sulking and being a distraction, he buckled in, supported and learned from HH, while soaking up the teachings of our QB whisperer.

People tend to remember the Milton who had the rough start. He simply wasn’t ready then. I think Clemson demonstrated that he is ready now. After this year, when people think of Milton, it will not be to remember those early struggles. With this coach, and this team, he has the chance to set the world on fire.

Joe has matured under Hype's tutelage.

He has improved in every area of being a starting QB in SEC.

See last several games he played and don't compare to his early years - it is not the same.

Go Vols!

I'll predict the fans will be calling for Nico most likely after Milton's first over throw and certainly after his first interception.

And when Nico comes in and over throws people because he was still doing in just a few weeks ago at practice, they'll be saying "we" paid $8 million for this?!?!

I think Joe is going to do ok, sure he'll miss some passes he shouldn't and things will happen, but Hooker over threw guys too

Don't rely on your memory when the film is still out there. I think what you would see was a terrible execution by our 5 linemen in dealing with a three man rush and him having to QUICKLY escape the pocket, and he rolled to his left, looking down field and slowing at the LOS near the 30 but no receiver was open, and the close pursuit did not allow him to just stop so he pulled it down and ran down the sideline from there to 8 where he was knocked out of bounds. He could have chunked an unanswered prayer to the endzone and avoided the contact all together, but was hoping for a downfield block or two that did not come and the defender did not overrun the play and give him a cutback lane. Those that INFER he cowardly stepped out of bounds are simply wrong. Go look and tell me the error of my review and justify any of those charges.

I am not talking trends I am talking distinct individual plays that have been FACTUALLY misrepresented OVER AND OVER. It also amazes me that the talking heads or serial detractors of Milton don't back up one play and discuss the very catchable ball where our receiver in the endzone did not elevate to get it and put Milton on the bench celebrating the go ahead TD.

I am genuinely curious to know what makes you think this OL is better than last year’s. Not sure if anyone can compare to Wright and even though Carvin was not great he had 40+ starts in his career. Also who knows when Coop actually comes back. He has a long road to hold. So now we get a few Centers with no real game experience.

I’ve said it all offseason , I think the O takes a step back.

I like Joe and think he has grown as a person exponentially but I don’t think he can put up the same numbers an Hooker did. I hope he can, but not sure if he’s ready. I don’t think the OL will give him the time he needs to sit in the pocket.

I also don’t think we need to score 46 a game if the D is as good as I think it will be. If the RBs take the next step this Offense could be more about ball control than quick scores, at least until Coop comes back
Now I do agree with you but in theory the OL should be better. Yes you lost Carvin but you brought in a transfer that can at least do what he did. Wright is the big loss. Mincey Crawford, and Spraggins have all started games for us on the big stages. Cooper will be back. They're all a year older so theoretically they should be better than last year.

Doesn't it feel that Milton is either going to have a Hooker Lite year or he will be benched? It's just hard for me to envision Huepel putting up with average QB play.

I think Milton is good. I think the pieces are in place at the RB and WR positions that will result in him leading us to 9 wins at the minimum. Can he make the clutch plays in key moments like HH5 to reach 10 or 11? Remains to be seen.

Also, I know everyone raves about his Orange Bowl performance. And it was good. He definitely showed significant improvement. Plus, it was the sweetest victory of the year for me, besides Alabama, against a team and program I despise. But I don’t think it was an incredible performance by any stretch. Still missed some throws and took some sacks that could’ve been avoided because he held onto the ball too long imo.
