Didn’t like the kid/cross storyline in season 2. Too coincidental.

Also completely made up. It’s already characters based on real people but the real “Bill Tench” had 3 kids and nothing like that ever happened with his kids.

Apparently a real event did happen in California in the early 70s where 2 brothers killed a toddler because he wouldn’t stop crying and they put him on a cross thinking it would bring him back to life. So they took that and added it to this story.

I get this is a dramatization of real events but I hate when they add stuff like this.

John Douglas, who is agent Holden in the series is a great speaker! Unfortunately it was only an hour long because he could have went on for hours and hours with all of his past experiences. He spent a good time discussing how he got started with the FBI and how he always questioned EVERYTHING even as a kid that helped him in his career. Discussed how accurate the series was with his real story and went into some pretty good details about several cases including The West Memphis Three, Edmund Kemper, David Berkowitcz and Sara Jane Moore. Told us how the roles of David Rossi and Jason Giedon in the tv show Criminal Minds were based on him along with the character Jack Crawford from The Silence of The Lambs. He was very funny and gave great insight to his career and the series. ISU said it was by FAR the biggest crowd they had ever had in over 10 years of their free speaker series, it was standing room only in a theater that held around 2,000.

Some Truth about the series that isn't portrayed in the show.

* Bill Tench who is really Robert Ressler had 3 kids and none of his sons witnessed or took part in a murder. The incident that played out in Season 2 involving Brian was taken from another true life story but the real story didn't involve Ressler's son.

* The real Wendy is still a nursing professor at Boston College to this day and never moved to a full position at the FBI. She also NEVER interviewed any subjects directly or visited any offenders. He laughed and said she also isn't a lesbian...lol

* He said unlike the series he only used a tape recorder ONCE and that was with Edward Kemper. Also unlike the series when they visit an offender they never gave up their weapon or credentials when entering the prison. He said him and Ressler hardly ever carried a weapon as most if not all profilers almost NEVER carry a weapon. They never gabe up their credentials because when interviewing a offender they ALWAYS wanted to see their ID and Manson even wanted to wear his badge one time.

* Stated most of what was shown in the series with the crimes and interview was fairly accurate.
* Said he believed if Kemper wasn't assaulted and treated like he was by his mother that he would not have been what he turned out to be in life.
* Is still contacted almost daily by police departments and the FBI to testify as a expert or to interview a possible serial killer.
* In real life his character (Holden) was in the Air Force for 4 years before "lucking" into a job at the FBI where he started out as a field agent in Detroit and served on the SWAT team and as a negotiator.

* Said he has been told by Netflix the plan for the series is to last 5 seasons. Said there are some MAJOR twists coming up in season 3 of the show that are accurate. He also said due to the overwhelming response to Mindhunter that there could possibly be a few movies or Netflix documentaries in the near future disclosing his cases. Said he has basically interviewed every known serial killer of the last 50 years.

So BTK next season?
Would have to really fast forward the timeline. Just did Wayne Williams and the Atlanta Child Murders...early 80’s. I expect interviews with Ted Bundy, the Jeffrey Dahmer case, Green River Killer et al before we get to that...at least 3-4 more seasons.

Just watched first three episodes and I’m hooked.
I’ve read a lot of true crime books and this show allows you a peek into some of the reasons killers commit murders.
Going to do three more episodes tomorrow.

Question: I just finished the first season. The scenes with Wendy & the kitten behind the wall were given a lot of screen time. I am baffled about what that all meant.
Any insights?

I really hope they bring this show back. Read where the producer or writer for the show is busy doing other projects and the cast members were released from their contracts.
