Umass is not a sec school.. How much did we score against Kent state and Chattanooga?
You're right. Mississippi State scored 28 on Florida, 13 on Texas, 31 on UGA, 24 on A&M, and 25 on Arkansas. They scored 16 more points against UF and Arkansas than UT did. MSU averages 24.2 PPG in SEC play. UT PPG in SEC play is 22.8. I like our chances if we score 31 on Georgia.

Mississippi State is giving up 211 rushing ypg, last in the SEC. I'd love to see our WRs have a breakout game as much as the next guy, but we've been winning without that and I'd love to see us win time of possession and have our strengths exploit their weaknesses just as much if not more so. It's harder to score when you don't have the ball.

MSU defense is terrible. That’s not my point. My point is UT doesn’t score much in SEC play. MSU scores more than most people think. Therefore, the spread is way too much.

and my added point is UT hasn't allow much scoring in SEC play. Including the defensive stats adds context. That State has given up 42.6 p/g in SEC play and the Vols 17.2 p/g in SEC is equally important.

42.6-17.2= 25.4

Every SEC team UT has played is in the bottom half for scoring defense, and yet UT's biggest margin of victory is 10 points. I don't dispute UT's defense is elite. I'm on record as saying just that. I just don't think UT will cover 23.5 points. I hope I'm wrong.

I think this is the first time that Mississippi State has been the homecoming opponent for Tennessee.

Mississippi State has a solid offense, and they will move the ball at times on Tennessee. Statistically, this is a similar performing offense to Tennessee’s. There is no comparison between these two defenses though. According to ESPN’s data, Tennessee leads the country in stop rate. That is the percentage of defensive drives that end in a punt, turnover, or turnover on downs. The Vols are producing one of those results on 80.5% of their opponents’ drive, allowing only 0.98 points per drive. Mississippi State is ranked 133 out of 134 teams in America at this same metric. The Bulldogs produce stops on only 38.6% of opponents’ drives. They give up 3.38 points per drive. That has resulted in Mississippi State giving up at least 34 points in every SEC game played this season. Tennessee has yet to eclipse 30 points in any single conference game. Something has to give this weekend. Tennessee’s offense appears to be improving, even if the scoreboard has not reflected that. It is hard to find those glimmers of hope for this State defense though. The Vols play a cleaner offensive game Saturday night, and run away from an overmatched opponent. Tennessee 44, Mississippi State 17

Spread too high. Hate to say I told you so, but you were so sure. Numbers don't lie.
