Missouri St. / Tennessee Stats

Pretty sure PPG and other stats reflect the style of offense they run...slow and boring.

You could be right, but check out Purdue's FG% defense. Seems that the philosophy is to challenge every shot. Purdue was 9th nationally in 2-point FG% defense last year, and they were pretty high this year, too (in a hurry atm, can't look it up).

Again, I think the problem with FG% D for MoState this year was mostly height.

It's certainly possible. It very well could be a case of doing what you can with what you have, and I'll be very happy if it turns out to be this.

While I agree with you, could never stand to watch Purdue and would much, much, much prefer Shaka's approach, there's something to be said for efficiency.

MOState played at something like 63.5 possessions per game this year. That, indeed, is very slow. Here are some teams that you might recognize that have similar paces:

Team (possessions per game)
Florida (64)
WV (63.8)
Cincinnati (63.8)
San Diego State (63.8)
Utah State (63.7)
Pittsburgh (63.1)
Richmond (62.9)
Michigan (62.7)
Texas A&M (62.2)

So Billy Donovan and Bob Huggins are similarly paced; and hot names Mick Cronin, Stew Morrill, Jamie Dixon, Chris Mooney, and Mark Turgeon are slower. (I threw SDSU and Michigan in there since we played them in the last couple of tournaments)

Pace shouldn't be the end-all, guys.

(especially for those of you who wanted mooney)

Good use of numbers there. The Florida comparison is very good. I will say, however, that the only teams on there I liked watching at all were Florida and Pitt; and the big difference between Pitt and the rest of those teams is that Pitt had a 67% assist rate. That indicates a slow pace while looking for plays (very much UNlike Pearl's approach this year). Missouri State's was about 55%: not horrible, not great. (Could just indicate needing Golden to run the show :), but could also indicate a big ten type plod.)
