AllanSimpson: A total of 61 JC prospects taken through 20 rounds, and very surprised that our top five JC kids in California have all been passed over, though Patrick Weigel (Houston), David Hill (San Diego), James Carter (UC Santa Barbara) and Steven Kane (Tennessee) all have solid college options. Hard to believe that someone hadn't popped Weigel and his 100 mph fastball, but just saw the Brewers took him in the 22nd round.

Just saw Steven Kane go to the Cubs in the 34th round (1009). Any idea on what he would do? This is a very late pick and I wouldn't imagine a lot of money tied to this.

I would imagine he would come on to school, but ya never know what the situations are for some of these kids. I agree, can't imagine there would be much money that late.

That's it...Obviously we lost Lane Thomas. Based on Kevin Steen's comments, he's going to be making a decision later. In theory, we should hold onto Steven Kane and Benny Santiago as well as the other commitments.

This is the first time I've ever sat through the entire draft. It will be interesting to see how Vandy does with their class, they had quite a few players drafted, some early on plus it seemed like every draft eligible player they had was drafted.

The big take away for me as a rookie to the process was how many players from other SEC schools got drafted over the last few days. We seem pretty far behind in that regard.

I hope Vandy (and all other SEC schools) get hit hard by losing recruits. Yeah, I know, a little selfish.

I would think that Santiago would still go to UT. I just saw that he would be draft eligible after his sophomore year. Only two years and if you do well would likely bypass the rookie leagues.

Miami always seems to turn out good pitchers like Johnson and Fernandez and Williams should do well with the Marlins.

I know for a fact Cody Reed will sign with the Dbacks..That's one pitcher that will not be going to Vandy

What did steen say?

Evidently there are some work outs or something in the near future, the way I took it was that maybe he can prove himself and get better money...definitely got the impression that he wants to go pro if it makes sense.

I've known Kevin for the past 13 years and have played on a couple different baseball teams with him... From what I've heard, before the draft he planned on going pro immediately if he was drafted before the 10th round... Obviously he did get drafted before the 10th round but based on the fact he's waited this long and he hasnt signed with the Red Sox yet, must mean UT has a good chance of him coming to school.. TIFWIW

Seriously? Its only been a a few days since the draft ended. Most teams have only signed a top pick or two...if that. The fact that he hasn't signed yet means literally nothing. I dont think that Boston has signed any of their Top 10 picks yet.

Beede was drafted 21st overall out of HS by the Blue Jays and turned down over $2 million (reportedly $2.5 mill at one point). He was just drafted 14th overall...the slot allotment at #14 this year is $2.6 million. So really, if he actually gets that full slot value he will have made little monetary gain by going to college. He also lost out on 3 years of development by an MLB team (versus College development which is inferior). He didn't gain anything in terms of getting to the MLB any quicker because he would have been 3-years into Pro minor league baseball by now had he signed out of HS.

Plus, he's 3 years down the road towards getting a degree from Vanderbilt. That's worth a lot of money in and of itself. Plus, I assure you he enjoyed the college life a lot more the last 3 years than he would have the bus trips and cheap hotels that A ball uses.

Ask David Price how passing up the big money and going to Vandy worked out for him.
