how can we embrace it if it's nearly impossible to find? Why would I want to drive 360 miles to Columbus, OH to take a chance on the Crew being worth seeing in person? I could take your word for it, but since you have a friend on the team, you obviously have a bias. The Crew could be no better than a 12 year old AYSO team for all I know.

Put more games in front of more people. Good grief, with all the support the US WC team received across the country, don't you think that now is the time to bring the MLS onto more mainstream channels?

What mainstream channels? It's on ESPN already.

I've driven 375 miles to Knoxville to watch a game, so how about reciprocating?:p

To actually touch on the fortunes of the premier league in America of a sport I don't care about...

MLS is in the uncomfortable position of being a development league to "the best in the world". The obvious question is whether they want to be the league that develops American talent only to see it end up overseas (and maybe in 10-20 years see the league become as important as European leagues), or whether they want to play hardball and try to go toe-to-toe with the Europeans.

Here's how I'd handle it: combine both. Create a parallel developmental league in conjunction with the MLS (MJS, perhaps?) with players age 16-20. Players sign a contract for a meager stipend and some type of college tuition plan. Get them playing in a manner similar to a JV football team in non-Ohio states, which would be "before the main game", with tickets to the main game good for both games. This would allow for a pipeline of homegrown talent to be tapped and developed with a meager outlay from the teams.

As far as various minor things go, I'm not a huge fan of some very basic things that are done over here. MLS teams changed their names en masse to make it more like European teams, but I don't see European hockey teams changing their names to be more like North American teams. European hockey has an upward-running clock, but so does MLS. Heck, it's the top league in this country...there's nothing wrong with doing things a little bit different than in Europe.

Tottenham Hotspur played at San Jose (the worst MLS team) and they tied today. I'm sure everyone will argue that Tottenham didn't bring have their official starting eleven on the field today, but c'mon. You can't argue that the MLS is soooooo far behind all EPL teams if a team like the Spurs can't even beat the worst MLS squad.
Again, I'm not saying the MLS is as good as the EPL. I just think their top third can compete with the EPL's bottom third. Without question!
My only point is that the league has hope. It only needs home-country soccer fans to show it some love.

Both teams looked awful.

if the MLS ever got to the point where they had a promotion/relegation system(which would probably never happen) it would be alot more fun to watch IMO. that's one of the things that makes english/premiere league games alot more interesting compared to what we have over here.

it's also nice to watch a game and not hear the damned vuvuzelas.

MLS is using that stupid new ball though, which no player seems to like
