I do not know enough about Monte's scheme to be sure, but as far as I know the Tampa 2 is a zone scheme with man to man principles. Obviously designed to shut down passing lanes and confuse the quarterback, but it often leaves the front four without a lot of help in the box.
The safties rarely help out on run defense, so it is more of a bend, not break concept. It maximizes turnovers and shuts down the redzone, the latter we couldn't do this year.
It doesn't make much sense to try and translate NFL ypg numbers into college numbers. The biggest thing is the touchdown total, not the yardage.
