MNF: kornheiser comment?

Any one remember when the 3 MNF announcers were O.J. Simpson, Joe Namath and Howard Cosell? Early 80's and you couldn't understand any one of them.

I don't understand the need to put the "non-football" perspective in the booth for football games. How many housewives, or college professors, or whatever audience they think they are atracting that normally wouldn't watch the game, tune in because Kornheiser (or Miller before him) is making lame jokes about Martin Luther? Who's next? Oprah? Richard Simmons?

Since Kornheiser is actually a sportswriter, and that is his profession.... He's quite a bit different than Miller (a comedian), Oprah (a non sports talk show host), and Richard Simmons (gay exercise guru?).

the lame match-ups are what have ruined alot of MNF. Give me a game that is interesting, Dallas v Buffalo?

He adds the same thing they would add to the broadcast--inane quips about non-football related pseudo intellectual nonsense.

Yes, it is a little tough to adjust to the premier prime-time game being on Sunday night rather than Monday. I liked it better the other way, but I'm an old fashioned kind of guy.

As a Tennessee fan, I liked Bill Curry & Mike Golic. Now those guys were funny, I don't care who you are.(Larry the Cable Guy joke:eek:lol:

The last ten minutes of that game were as interesting as any football game I've seen in the last five years. Also, watching Romo throw four or five interceptions after having been practically anointed the second coming of the lovechild of Brett Favre and Troy Aikman was pretty interesting. At the end of the first half, Buffalo had two defensive touchdowns and a special teams touchdown, but could barely move the ball on offense. That's interesting. Then a 1-4 Buffalo team hung tight and almost pulled off an improbable victory with loads of important starting players out for injury. That's also interesting.

So I guess you have to actually watch the game before you can tell whether or not it is a lame match-up.

Bill Curry currently holds my #2 spot for "Worst College Color Commentator," behind only Bob Davie.

Doesn't change the fact that Kornheiser has ruined Monday Night Football.

Monday night football has changed anyway. It doesn't get marquee matcups like it used to when it was on ABC. Sunday night football on NBC is the bigger deal now

That was never the MNF threesome. None of those are play by play announcers....you're mistaken. Maybe OJ was on the sideline. Frank Gifford did play-by-play in the early eighties
