Check out the bands from the original Elephant 6 label if you like psychedelic music from the 60s, particularly the Beach Boys sound. Circulatory System, Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, & Apples in Stereo were the founding bands in the label I think.

if you like the psychedelic also add Outrageous Cherry - maybe more pop than RnR but has a nice edge. Definitely a Beach Boys inspired sound

I love the Flaming Lips too. Start with the album "Z".

Nothing like the Flaming Lips and I prefer to start with It Still Moves but Z is more polished.

One of the GOAT. MMJ at Red Rocks was one of the coolest things I have ever seen and baby, I've seen a lot.

Agreed. Same goes for Pearl Jam. They may not be everybody's cup of tea, but they are as good live as any band out there hands down.

As for bands with a classic sound, I have been enjoying Highly Suspect a lot lately.

I have enjoyed Halestorm's cover albums. There are 3 now, with covers of Ride the Lightning, Fell on Black Days, Slave to the Grind, Still of the Night, ....
