He recruits in and out of state well, he never looses players because thet are unhappy, he played in the SEC at Kentucky, he is not out for the big pay check, the man finished close to .500 without redshirting a freshman because the MLB Draft depleted his pitching and big offensive threat. I have heard his energy level is through the roof at practice and games. What ya think?

Some more info....UT officials have asked that the signees and possibly players be there if they can for the press conference. The players/signees are suppose to find out Monday morning if they need to come for sure, if not Monday it would be Tuesday. I guess I got a little excited and jumped the gun somewhat but we need a coach to start recruiting asap. July 1st will be here before we know it.

If true it will be Serrano. Hamilton had this done before leaving for Destin.

I heard MH really liked Burke so him resigning may have actually sped up the process of hiring Serrano.

That's 100% false. Hamilton was not considering Burke. Hamilton leaving may have gotten him an interview.

I didn't mean to imply Burke was going to get the job. However, MH and a few others liked him and so MH may have intended to give him a interview out of respect. I dont think he intended on hiring him by no means.

Does Joan Cronan being named Interim AD have any bearing on this monday/tuesday announcement?

I don't believe it will be that soon.

There are interviews scheduled beyond that "deadline" so unless those are canceled, I don't believe we will have an announcement on Monday, and I don't believe that Joan's position has anything to do with it.

would be almost impossible for the current players to come. they are spread all over the country from alaska to minnesota to new england playing in summer leagues.

I am not trying to disagree but I think we are still missing perspective.

Although, baseball is by far the one sport that East Tennessee excels in growing and developing talent it still lags WAY behind other states. In fact, Florida does better than it does even in football. You can look at the amateur draft by state and see that Tennessee lags far behind most states in fact.

I believe the fact that Farragut does dominate the way they do actually proves that the talent pool is rather thin. The travel team guys simply stay in that community.

Sure there are guys at other schools like South Doyle and Halls and Maryville but it's Farragut.

And not to harp on a common subject, but it's not like that Farragut alumnus are eating up professional (and to some extent college) ball. They are not even close to out-of-state programs like Westminster Christian.

Tennessee could put together a decent team with in-state talent but would not be a consistent national presence.

Like it or not we need out-of-state guys. Just not as many as football or basketball.

Our all-time best teams 1993-1996 were made up of a core of local guys (Helton, Freeman, Foster, Trammell, Dickey) but also had great out-of-state guys (especially from California)

Tennessee will never be a power in the SEC with in-state talent.

You don't know what you are talking about. East Tennessee alone has 3 kids ranked in the top 28 nationally. Hell, the pitcher from Johnson City is ranked 6th nationally. None of the 3 are committed to Tennessee. Imagine having 3 football players from East Tenn ranked in the top 28 NATIONALLY and Dooley getting NONE of them. He would get ran outta town. Not only do we have a ton of talent from Bristol to Memphis, Walters State is 50 miles down the interstate and is a top 3-5 JUCO program nationally. They are composed of almost all Tennessee boys. On top of that, they send multiple kids pro each year and multiple kids to S.E.C. schools annually. So if you don't mind, please tell me how we couldn't compete with Tennessee kids?

2011 First Year player draft

Tennessee...68 total drafted including kids from Tennessee colleges.

Highest is Sonny Gray at #18. 11 in top 200

18 56 59 64 74 99 106 117 172 185 and 187

5 of these are Vandy guys are from outside Tennessee. Basically leaving no more than 6 who are from Tennessee as a whole

Florida......181 guys drafted. 26 guys in top-200

California....303 players drafted. 50 players in top-200

In fact, history shows that most of the guys drafted from Tennessee are college guys who played prep ball elsewhere. 2011 actually saw more Tennessee prep guys get drafted than normal.

I did not disagree that East Tennessee baseball is "good" as it is the best sport that East Tennessee has. BUT It still has a long way to go to the best in the country.

And yes, I do know what I'm talking about as the draft reports back me up on that

Tennessee population: 6.2 million

Florida population: 18.8 million

Cali population: 37.3 million

Florida has triple the population of Tennessee and had triple the players drafted. Cali has 5 times the population and had 5 times the players drafted. Yes they more elite players, they have more people. But your numbers show that per-capita that Tennessee has really good baseball. Meaning if Tennessee had the pouplation of Cali or Florida then their numbers would look the same. A kid who throws 90+ from Florida doesn't throw harder than a kid who throws 90+ from Tennessee, just more of them in Fla. And I only mentioned that we had 3 kids in the top 28 from East Tenn, 2 from Knoxville. I didn't say a thing about recruiting ONLY East Tennessee. State wide, there is talent here.

When you consider that a huge hunk of the kids listed as being from Tennessee are actually from out-of-state then Tennessee does not live up to the population ratio.

It's not Tennessee's fault. The weather, the demographics (lots of Latinos), and population leaving hundreds of kids in California and Florida eligible for SEC or similar rosters. Tennessee high schools (at best) could fill one quality roster and that's if you sign every one of the them and more than half don't go pro.

Tennessee is not losing to schools due to the presence of in-state kids on their roster. We are losing because we have no talent at all and have quite a few in-state kids who can't hit the damn ball. Vanderbilt is not beating everyone with Tennessee kids. They are beating everyone with kids from Florida, New York, New Jersey, etc.
