This place never stops amazing me. Smh. I love the people who sit here and try to say 'ol monte sux cause he hasn't been able to adjust to the new era of college football offenses. I really think people underestimate the impact the current offensive schemes have on defenses. Not even the best legendary minds are able to figure it all out yet. Only few teams like Bama, LSU, etc can but it has a lot more to do with the quality depth they have been able to accumulate. As even Saban himself has been outspoken about his concerns on the new offenses.

The Os have changed and the DCs haven't been able to truly figure it out (with regular talent depth). So it will take some time before we see DCs trained up from the ranks that are able to stop it. As well as the players coming up in those systems too. Things are changing and defenses are getting smacked because of it. It's odd to say but DCs from the likes of the PAC12 are going to be hot commodities in the future IMO. Cause they have been facing these types of Os on a regular and will adapt to them faster than DCs in traditional O conferences. It's interesting to watch it all change IMO.

Now I've been concerned about all the HC openings hurting UT but I'll be honest I'm more concerned about when it comes time to hire the staffs. Especially trying to find a GREAT DC cause honestly IMO that's the diamond in the rough right there. Now there is another premier program in the DC search and that's not good. Keeping Chaney and the O staff intact just might be a really solid option.

All know I was a Dooley guy to the end and still believe that finding the best DC available this yr would have been a better move than getting rid of DD. (let the bashing begin. Ha!). Is what it is at this pt but as I sit back and see the overall coaching hiring landscape mess we are in the middle of right now I just don't see how it was the best decision at this moment. Understand the empathy argument but just thought we were setting ourselves up for bad things in the future all season with the firing talk and still think we have. Of course there's always a chance this hire is the perfect one but I'm sure not a single person can be 100% confident about anyone being mentioned.

Taking it day by day ATP and I hope that everyone else does too. GBO!!!!

Rumor at AU is Kiffen may talk to Chiz about DC job. What a pair that would make. From ESPN -

Gene Chizik
Possible Position: Defensive coordinator

Chizik was fired as Auburn’s coach last week, less than two years after leading the Tigers to the BCS National Championship. It has been a historic slide for Chizik, who went 3-9 this past season at Auburn. If Chizik isn’t able to find any attractive head coaching vacancies, he might be inclined to return to his old role as a defensive coordinator, a position he shined in at Auburn and Texas. Chizik was Auburn’s defensive coordinator from 2002-2004, and his 2004 unit led the country in scoring defense and was a catalyst in the Tigers finishing the season 13-0 and second only to USC in the final polls. He was then Texas’ defensive coordinator from 2005-2006, a team USC fans remember well from their classic 2006 Rose Bowl game. If Chizik can help turn USC’s defense around and help them to an undefeated season or a Rose Bowl win, he’ll probably get to choose his next head coaching job.

Read this yesterday. Which defense was worse this year; the Sal-monella or the Fool Monte?
