It has to be top 10 closest presidential elections in history. It was anything but obvious. Hell they didn't even know the winner the day of the election. I have no idea what "therealUT" is talking about.
Ohio was the only battleground state that Bush positively needed and got that was close. He won Florida and Virginia with greater than 5% margin (which in recent history is large for both states). Aside from some die-hard Democrats, there were not a lot of people who thought Kerry would actually come away victorious. If your experience leading up to and around that election is different, then we are just from completely opposite worlds.
I mean he won by 35 electoral votes. That's pretty damn close dude. I don't know what else to tell you. I know you wont admit to being wrong so we can move on. :hi:
Why don't you do some research. List the elections closer than 35 electoral votes?
I can do it for you if you don't want to bother.
That is your only metric? It does not consist in how close the voting was within each state?
If that is your criteria, than I accede to your point. However, if everyone was feeling pretty certain that Florida and Virginia were going to Bush, and he handily won Florida and Virginia, I would say factors into the "obvious" category. As I said, I grant that Ohio was incredibly close.
