The exit strategy from Iraq to be done by 09 was unrealistic and dangerous

I don't think that plan was ever meant to be enforced. Obama was preaching to the wants (and ignorances) of the voting public.

Like I said... pink sock.

I know it's off topic but did anyone else catch "Restrepo" on National Geographic earlier this week?

If not you need to, very good documentary.

It's on netflix, too. Really good.

More Marines For Afghanistan – To Win Their Hearts And Minds | Here's The Right Side Of It

Translation: Military pressure could open divisions within Islam and force Muslims away from their centuries-old religious, political, and legal beliefs. Good luck with that one.

The ongoing denial, lack of understanding, obfuscation and abject ignorance of Islamic doctrine’s role in this wave of jihad that began anew with the discovery of oil in the Middle East is beyond belief. We are an invading Army of Infidels in the Dar al Islam (House of Islam). We came into their house from the Dar al Harb (House of War). There are only two places in the Muslim world and I just named them.

Gates and his minions would have us believe that by ordering our bravest to sit down with the local Muslim chieftains, drink their tea, eat their goat and give them lots of American cash, we will somehow transform them and win their hearts and minds.

Nah, no way a "liberal democrat socialism practicing commie nazi" could ever support an increased war effort...

Sorry, President Obama campaigned on more fore in Afghanistan from the beginning and has kept his word on that one.

Sorry, you missed the sarcasm laden comment. Thought the conflicting political ideologies in quotations was a strong, not at all subtle, quite overt... hint.

Two things really stuck with me after watching it. First was the reaction of some of the guys after they learned of Huggels death. Second was the young Hispanic soldier (don't remember his name) who was smiling while talking about Huggels death and his problems after getting home. Some might say the smiling wasn't appropriate for the situation but it was obvious to me it was a defense mechanism, the kid was seriously disturbed and has issues he doesn't know how to deal with. Sad in many ways.

had to be a defense mech but a lot of them seemed to have serious issues. I thought the guy talking about the rush of a firefight and another asked how he was going to make it back in the real world was telling. You just can't go from 15mos of people shooting at you to life in the USA without issues
