2010-2011 Wake Forest Season Preview
Jeff Bzdelik came to Wake Forest in a battling mood. He knows what outsiders are saying – or yawning – about his hiring. He knows what they’re saying – or yawning – about his style of play. And he knows what they’re saying – or yawning – about Wake Forest’s competitive chances after losing its best four players to graduation or the NBA
Baylor was expected to make another deep run in the AAs. Both teams laid eggs this year.

As a huge Wake basketball fan, I can assure you this is the most painful season I have ever watched. It's agonizing to watch a once proud program (only two years ago) playing the most pathetic basketball of any team in a major conference.

This. Its so sad to watch right now.

Why did Gaudio get fired? Seems a better coach than the current guy.

I LOVED coach Gaudio. Met him several times. Very nice guy, great coach, and solid recruiter. Officially, Gaudio was fired due to "poor post-season performances" (both ACC and NCAA tournaments). However, most fans (including myself) believe it had everything to do with the longtime friendship between Ron Wellman (AD) and Jeff Bzdelik (current head coach). Wellman was more or less looking for any reason to fire Gaudio in order to replace him with Bzdelik.

Wake did have some talented teams while he was there, but he couldn't get over the hump. It seemed like a weak reason to let him go after only 3 seasons, so i also believe there was more to it than that.

True. I think people forget how young those teams (in particular the 08'-09' squad) actually were. Their were no seniors that significantly contributed, LD Williams and Ishmael Smith were the only juniors with any real significant contribution (I hated McFarland). 80% of that squad were made of very talented freshmen and sophomores. Its very hard to have post-season success with a lack of upperclassmen experience and leadership regardless of who the coach may be.

Agreed on everything especially the mcfarland hate. I wanted so badly for woods or walker to flip the switch so they would take his minutes.

Considering the circumstances he got the job under, I thought Gaudio was doing pretty good. Seemed a good recruiter too. Fired too soon IMO.

I think Belmont could make a Sweet 16 run.

If they get the right draw, they will. A good draw for Belmont would be Arizona in the first round and St. John's in the second (assuming the Bruins are a 12 seed).
