Answering this question requires precise definition of the nature of our rivalries. If you ask who is the "biggest" rival historically, the answer without question must be Alabama. When it comes to pure, unadulterated contempt or loathing, Florida gets the nod, courtesy of Spurrier's behavior and the condescending, self-assumed superiority which so many Florida fans manifest. Personally, I despise Vanderbilt more than any other football rival and it is for purely personal reasons. With an uncle who coached baseball there during the late 1960s and 1970s, I have endured 40 years of intrafamilial trash-talking, regardless of the football fortunes of our respective teams. Consequently, I have developed a Cafegoesque contempt for Vanderbilt's football program. "Commodore" is best served cold, marinated, and beaten to a bloody pulp.
