Most important hire in ut history!!!!

Vol fan????? If u say things like that u never were! A vol fan will back his team, program, coach!! No matter who is at the helm...

He has a point. BJ was a mid-tier hire, and was maybe 5th or 6th on the list...only getting the job after at least 2 rejections. Having concerns about this hire hardly qualifies one for a response like that. here's an idea, instead of judging someone else's fanhood, why not explain why you disagree with the post. I'm becoming more and more excited about this hire, but I'm not ignorant enough to believe everyone will feel the same way I do regarding a controversial hire like this

Any coach should want to come to Tennessee. The reason our program is in the crapper is because our AD has brought in Crap hires. The only way things will improve is if people quit spending money at Tennessee. Stop going to the games, buying merchandise, etc. Some people will go no matter what and that is fine for them, but for those who actually care about the program and want a different direction, typing posts will not cut it. This past year was the first time since 1998 that I didn't attend a single game. I will not attend this year either...probably won't watch a game either. Don't you dare say I'm not a true fan, this kills me. I felt all day yesterday like my best friend died. When I am proved right about this hire I will be even more sad because it means our program is in even worse shape. I love Tennessee football and can't stand where we are. Our program is in the crapper and we needed a PROVEN winner, not a guy trying to PROVE himself.

I think as a fan and donor for the last 4 years we deserved better than this. I got behind Kiffin, I got behind Dooley, now I want to get behind Hart and rape him like this hire will rape us.......No Homo.....

What a strange thing to say

Well since Butch won championships at his last stops that would make him a winner, wouldn't it? Hamilton about killed this program by giving Fulmer a raise he shouldn't then having to fire him, hiring Kiffin who had a losing record, and Dooley who had not even been a coordinator. Butch has won as a head coach and his record before coming to the SEC is as good as Saban. Saban averaged won barely more than 6 games at MSU before going to LSU. Would you have hired Saban with that record since Butch is not good enough? Also, why would Gundy, Fisher and Strong come here? They have it better where they are. Gruden? Why in the world would he come to college and how many college games has he won? I really don't get the unlove for Butch. I think he should have been higher on the list, but fortunately we got him anyway.

By your argument, why would coaches want to come here? Why would great players want to come here? They will have a better shot at the NFL at the other SEC schools. Heck, even Vandy will out recruit us. Winning in the MAC and Big East doesn't PROVE anything. At least MSU is in a conference that sends the 2nd place team to the national championship quite a bit.

I have just been asking people to name the guaranteed coach to cure all the ills in the program. I haven't seen any listed. I am an alum and went through the Bill Battle days until a loss to Vandy got him fired too. We were a Nebraska loss away from being in the running for a NC then losing to Vandy a few years later. Johnny came in and it took him 5 years to get us competitive again. This fan base of today would have him fired well before he got there. We have never been a top 5 program nationally, but had some wonderful success in the 90's when the conference was weaker than today. What kind of success would Fulmer have had if Saban and Miles were coaching as well as Spurrier. We all know how much he beat Spurrier. We just have to be a consistent 9-10 win program that can jump into the mix every so often when things align. We are not there.

You lost all credibility with your title. Tennessee football virtually wouldn't exist without Robert Neyland.

so if your wrong about this hire...what will you do? I hope you'll never post something like this again. We may all feel like crap sometimes about our football program or feel disappointed but you never know what the future may bring. I'm curbing my enthusiasm for this coaching staff too but I'm never going to hang someone before the jury is still out...heck the trail hasn't really even started and your acting like judge and jury. He could turn into a great success story. I'm not saying your wrong about CBJ...but if you are wrong just remember what you posted here today.

This is absolutely the most important head coaching hire UT has ever faced. And, we hire Butch Jones!!! It is safe to say this isn't your daddy's Vols anymore. I will always be a Vol fan, but no more money from me. They will have to show me they know what their doing.

A guy like Jones would have been great 3 years ago, but this is the absolute worse thing we need right know. He will not excite fans which will lead to poor support. Which will likely lead to poor recruiting. All turns into a big cycle of 6 and 7 win seasons.

Way to make a splash Hart! Only problem is it is a negative one!!!!

TOTAL BS......... The most important hire at UT was when the Trustees hired Hamilton. Then Cheek and Hart.
This Coach wil either be successful or be gone in 3-4 years. And dont start the crap about Championships! We have to learn to crawl before we worry bout running.

If you are dumb enough to believe Gruden was a home run for success then your support is lacking anyway. If you want to piss and moan about the hire, do it, but aim it at those at fault, not a Coach who does want the job. As "supposed" UT fans, we should be willing to at least support him until he proves otherwise. Anything else is just conjecture on your part anyway!! :hi:

Battle's problem was not coaching. He was a very good coach. His problem was recruiting. He had the worst recruiting classes in the history of Tennessee football.

Three ways to get fans back:

1) Lower ticket prices/remove donor fees
2) Win games
3) Hire a popular coach who's either a beloved alum or at the top of his game (a la Johnny Majors)

Combine high ticket prices/ridiculous donor fees with a losing record and an unpopular coach and you've got a lot of unhappy people. Fans have remained loyal, but the patience is gone. So this was a critical hire... and not a popular one. It will be interesting to see where the fanbase is after the third Saturday in September, with UF and @Oregon behind us.

Eveery hire is going to be the present most important hire. Historically it will turn out to be on par with hiring Johnny. That is if we can be patient and let a foundation take root like was done with johnny. Then if necessary we can TWEAK it instead of gutting the entire thing as we did when Phil replaced johnny.

All our splash candidates turned us down though. I'm not about to defend Hart; he's done a more miserable job with this coaching search than I thought possible. He is mostly to blame.

But there were no splash candidates left. When Strong turned us down, our fate was sealed. We were left with a bunch of unexciting nobodies.

That's why Hart should have fired Dooley last year! Hart really missed the boat on this.
