UGA - Looked good. Very Bama-esque, in the sense of Mason is like a McElroy/McCarron type player. Not expected to do anything but manage the game. Plus, with Marshall/Gurley/Michel/Chubb, they have an absolutely incredible stable of backs. Going to be hard to beat, but they normally beat themselves. Richt will find a way to screw this season up.
South Carolina - I'm not going to make any snap judgments about them. I still think they're going to have a good season. But everything is ruined if they lose next week to UGA, since many people think that it's UGA and SC for the East. SC can redeem itself, but it HAS to win next week.
Missouri - Didn't get to watch, didn't play the quality opponent that SC or UGA played, but seemed to do well. Had 2 RB's that averaged 6 YPC, and Mauk seemed to play well, throwing 3 TD's is always good. Still don't think they will be near as good as they were last year, their defense doesn't look as good. But, they'll still be middle of the pack, and could potentially upset some people.
Vanderbilt - Looked like crap. Mason doesn't know what he's doing. Pulling his QB in the first quarter probably completely lost him any sort of credibility and trust he had. That is the type of thing that hurts a locker room. Especially when said QB was 4-6 at the time he was pulled?? What the heck? I'm honestly wondering if Vanderbilt will win more than 2 games all season. That was a pathetic showing.
Kentucky - I know they played UT-Martin...who we beat 52-0 a few years ago....but Kentucky looked pretty good, at least for Kentucky's standards. Braylen Heard (which is just too weird) looked good, Towles looked good...even Matt Elam, who we recruited hard last year looked good. I don't see Kentucky ever competing for SEC Championships, but...Stoops is going to have them having some success. As long as that success isn't against us, I'm cool with that. They're getting better. Facility upgrades should help them a little.
Alabama - So odd that they have a QB issue. Btw...NOT RACIST, JUST WONDERING...when was the last time Bama started an African-American QB? Anyways, I thought for sure Coker would win the job...guess it's a good thing he didn't. Bama of course, has a great run game. But their problem will be the secondary. If our WR's and QB has a good game against them, we might can put up some points.
A&M - Dang. They looked good. Like..SEC Champion good. Murdered USCjr. Did not expect that. Will be interested to see if Hill does that week in and week out, or if it was just a fluke. But...Kevin Sumlin can coach. He will be the NFL in 5 years, my guess.
Arkansas - Bielema just isn't the guy there. He should have stayed at Wisconsin. They're getting better. But he won't have them to the level that Bobby Petrino did. They'll be lucky to make a bowl this year.
Auburn - I don't think Auburn wins the SEC. I don't think they make the playoffs. But I do think they have a good year. Johnson played extremely well at QB, and so did Marshall. Losing Mason hurt them badly, but they still have a lot of talent, and a lot of speed. Plus, Malzahn is one of the best coaches X's and O's wise in the country. I think Malzahn, Sumlin, and Saban are three of the most brilliant coaches in College Football.
LSU - Didn't get to watch them, but Fournette definitely didn't live up to hype. But good win over a good Wisconsin team. I think LSU is a upsetter, but I'm not sure they're a contender.
Ole Miss - I think Ole Miss has a better chance to win the West than LSU does. Ole Miss had a bad first half, but I think they're going to make some noise. I'm not looking forward to playing them in Oxford this year.
Miss. State - Dak Prescott looked good. Not sure, they didn't really play a quality opponent either.
Florida - didn't get to play.
Next week should be interesting. UGA vs. SC very well may be HUGE for us. IF SC can beat UGA and level the playing field, that could bode very well for us, especially since we came so close to beating them last year, and did beat USC.
I'm looking forward to seeing how we look today. Been waiting a LONG time for this one.
