Gonna go BJ Upton. Horrible batting average and not that great in the power department at the moment.

Jason Heyward

He's played for a season and a half, and he posted a 5.2 WAR last season as a rookie, good for seventh in the NL.

He's struggling this year, but it's a little premature to be calling him overrated because he's had a bad half of a season.

He just hasn't been as brilliant as everyone thought. He has a few holes in his swing and doesn't have the raw power to make up for it. Or it isn't all clicking just yet, at least. I'm not writing him off, just waiting for him to demoralize pitching like most predicted.

People on this very site claim he is the next Willie Mays.

Let me say this first, Heyward might turn out to be a complete stud. Hall of famer and all of that.

But, yes he is overrated. All you heard last year is how he was Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and everyone else.

He had a good year last year. Not so good this year.

Not saying he isn't a good player, but he is the definition of overrated. Not his fault either. It is the fans fault.

Heyward put a 5.1 War as a 20 year old rookie and missed about 20 games. He was one of the 15 best position players in the NL last year according to WAR. He had a hell of a rookie year.

Most overrated based solely on current contract: Alfonso Soriano, Jayson Werth, Derek Lowe, Jason Bay, John Lackey
Most disappointing based on hype/potential: Jason Heyward, BJ Upton, Jeff Franceour
Most 'getting by on reputation/past performance': Jeter, Ichiro
Most obviously overrated/disappointing imports: Kei Igawa, Dice-K, Kosuke Fukodome
Most generally overrated pitchers: Papelbon, Jaba, Jonathan Broxton
Most generally overrated position players: David Wright, A-Rod, Nick Swisher, Ryan Howard, Joe Mauer (as a 1B, not catcher)

Lei Igawa is in another world compared to the other 2. And that's saying alot.

Heyward has only been in the league for a year and half correct? He is not a 10 yr player making tons of money. Good grief people. :loco:

I would now like to nominate Hunter Pence for the most overrated player list. Quite the accomplishment for a guy that was on the most underrated list a couple days ago.

What does money and longevity have to do with overrated?

Not only Braves fans, but most baseball people acted like he was the greatest player coming up in the last 10-15 years. He isn't. Good rookie year, bad second year.

He isn't Willie Mays. He isn't Hank Aaron. Right now, he is an average MLB player. And he is supposed to be much more. Clearly overrated.

Heyward hasnt had a chance to be rated yet, way too early to tell, media hype and fan expectations can be outlandish, here is a prime example.

Anyone who thought he was the next Mays shouldn't be allowed to watch the sport of baseball.
