Did I hear D. Hart say Dooley still had his job up until he lost the Vandy game?? Am I the only one thinking that if Dooley won out and took us to the toilet bowl it would have been a huge mistake to keep him?
I know Dooley is gone but it worries me for a future if Hart was still on board the Dooley train till this week??!!

I think he meant he wasn't going to fire him if they had a chance at a bowl game. Meaning would've waited until after the bowl. That would've been terrible

He just wants to sound politically correct. If he made the decision to fire much earlier, why wait till a loss.

Hart would have let him coach UK game if we had won to help us get to bowl and then fired him.Since no bowl game what is there to play for?

I am hoping he was just lying to us. If not, there are other problems. He also said he hadn't spoken to or back-channeled any candidates.

It's a Press Conference......you don't always hear everything they know. You hear only what they want you to know!

It was spinned to make everyone look the best they could, that was it......Dooley has known his fate a long time :hi:

He doesn't have to tell anyone the whole truth. His job is to put lipstick on this pig and make it as pretty as possible for UT.

Some people can't be that crazy. You hear the term "coach speak" all the time. Well this was Dave Hart coming off as a nice guy. Dooley cooked his turkey long before the Vandy game. Of course Hart aint going up there and putting him on blast. I would imagine stuff has been happening behind the scenes for awhile now

BIG big big big big semantical implication there.

HART hasn't contacted anyone, himself... you do the math. :good!:

I think he just meant he wouldn't have been fired right now before the season was over. Of course it could've been had we beaten a mediocre Vandy and then KY to get to 6-6 and then won a junk bowl game they would've given him another season.... And yes, that would've been a huge mistake. He needed to go and go ASAP.

I think you're misinterpreting that. Or he's being polite.

How many college coaches do you know that get fired by noon the next day after a game? Obviously, this was already planned if he was fired that quickly. Normally, when these things happen, it's the Monday afternoon afterwards.

Actually, the biggest revelation from the press conference is that it's very unlikely that Kirby Smart will be our next coach. I think Hart's statement that he wants a coach with 'prior head coaching experience' was codeword for "NOT KIRBY SMART". Which relieves me a bit. I don't want any more unproven Saban disciples after Dooley and Sunseri.

That is the way it is done. That does not mean that someone with Tennessee interests has not put out feelers for interest. Hart is going at this in the proper way. If people don't understand the proper way, they should not make miss-leading comments.

It's nice to know that someone understood what Hart was saying. He was just trying to give the team the most opportunity he could in order for them to salvage what was left of this season.

I disagree with the bold though. I very much agree with Hart on the whole "we have time" thing. There is plenty of time, our options aren't going to be limited whether we waited for the season's end or not. There was no hurry to fire Dooley (despite the obvious unrest of the fanbase). We kept him in to try and get a bowl, it didn't work, so there was no point in keeping him any longer.

A big argument i've heard about waiting this long is recruitment.. Either way, transitional periods generally will hurt recruiting a bit.. but if we do happen to get a big name, top-knotch hire, there's plenty of time before NSD so you never know what could happen.

I gained quite a bit of faith in Hart after that press conference. He knows what our issues are and he has a plan to try and fix them. I'm fairly confident he'll make a good hire. And c'mon! The whole "if you want to show people what your made of, come to the SEC and UT" thing was brilliant. If thats not an appealing challenge to a coach, I'm not sure what is.

Technically, he did still have his job until after the Vandy game.

Doesn't mean he was going to keep that job.

Most shocking revelation from Harts press.

The most shocking revelation was that nobody asked the Gruden question.
