My biggest wish would be beat UK at rupp, then in the SEC tourny, then somehow meet up in the NCAA's and beat them again :) I hate UK!

Remember the last time we beat UK 3 times in 1 year? Don Devoe did it his first year 1979. Twice in the regular season and then in SEC tourney. That was awesome!

And upgrade to iOS 7.

And then throw your iPhone in the trash and get an Android platform phone.

Just kidding iPhone lovers. Please refrain from scolding me over the next four pages, and forcing the mods to change thread title to "Most to iProve...Droid vs Apple".

I know this is a tad random, but this is a reason I can't stand star ratings. You just never know how the prospect will pan out in college. I know we've discussed that recruiting higher quality players gives you a better chance to be successful, but just because a recruit isn't ranked or is lowly ranked doesn't mean they won't pan out well in college.

I was reading the "most to prove" by ESPN, but this time in more detail and really figure out what they were saying. I came across Derrick Marks (click on his name for stats). He came out of high school unranked yet there were 16 times where he put up 15+ points, 8 times where he put up 20+ and 3 times scoring 30+ as a sophomore.

Just goes to show, ratings won't mean everything and that people need to stop blowing blood vessels over low rated recruits. Out of all our players, I truly think Armani Moore will be a star on this team.

It's a good point about the star system. On Moore, he will need to show a greatly improved offensive game from year one to year two to be more than a hustle player who cleans up the boards well for an undersized player without a real position. He's definitely shown flashes, but he needs to develop at least one offensive trait (ball-handling, outside shot, driving ability).

Just curious, do you not think he had good drives this year? I thought he did a good job getting to the lane and from what Cuonzo said - he has a good 3 pt shot and shot around 35% in HS.

He has ability to drive, but he is careless with the ball and turned it over on drives more often than not. He also seems to have the JP Prince mentality when taking it to the hole, where 1 on 3 seems like a good idea in his head. He just needs to use better judgement on those drives. He finished his smarter ones well last season, and if he can improve his ball-handling and decision-making abilities, he will have more success in that area. He has the athletic ability down now. He just needs to develop the fundamentals.

For his outside shooting, I take HS stats with a grain of salt. Most are a product of wide-open looks, a closer line, and talent differential. At the college level, you're going to get fewer open looks against better competition, and the line is a foot further away. Moore shot something like 25-26% from 3-point land last year. That's not good or even passable to be considered a decent shooter. He may be better than those numbers indicate (an admittedly small sample size), but it's obviously an area he needs to work on to be considered a decent-to-good shooter.

All-in-all, he's an athletic player without a real position who can be effective with skill and decision-making improvement. Right now, he is in the JP Prince mold with a better jumpshot. He has an ability to be better than Prince in all phases (except showboating after literally EVERY made shot) if he works at it. He has time, and his improvement from year one to year two will be very telling for his future IMO.

Any concern this might be a problem with Jordan Cornish too? I ask because their size is very similar.

By the way, I like the comparison between Moore and Prince. I've said the same thing several times while watching.

I think JP is a pretty good comparison from a physical skills standpoint. The main differences I see are that Moore seems to have a lot better vision and has shown the ability be creative with passes and get the ball through tight spaces (but like you said the decision making needs work). Also he is not nearly the black hole JP was.

I don't remember Prince being as disruptive defensively either. Do you?

I don't know a ton about Cornish, but I think he is supposed to have a more well rounded offensive game. Pretty sure he's a legit threat from the outside (hard to know until he plays at this level though).

Not as much as he could have been. He would snipe some lazy passes and get easy runouts, but I remember thinking he could have been a lot more disruptive if he'd given consistent effort.

Jordan is a better driver from what I've seen than Moore, much more under control. I would also say that Cornish at least has a respectable 3 point shot, opponents don't respect Moore's.

Prince lived in the passing lanes, that guy was always tipping passes or blocking shots.

I remember the tipped passes. Those lead to several run out yams. But I was referring to boards and blocks. I dont remember him being nearly the presence inside Moore can be. jmo

The "stars" ranking system is far from perfect, and it isn't the only indicator of how well a player is going to be in college, but it is pretty reliable. For every Derrick Marks it gets wrong, there are hundreds of players that it got right.

That's what I remember too. He was great in passing lanes outside the paint, but he could have been a force in the paint rebounding and blocking shots if he wanted to.
