I was actually considering putting together an overated-underated thread

I'll go with David Ragan, people hated on him last year because he couldn't replace Mark Martin and people placed way to high of expectations on him. He's settled in and is making a nice little chase run so far

Not really, he's just not a flashy driver. He reminds me of the Burton's, Kenseth's, etc. He just drives around and salvages what his car gives him, he rarely does anything stupid on the racetrack. Just look at what he's accomplished in the Busch series

Clint Bowyer is the most underrated driver in Nascar.

I would have said that last year, but Boyer is now starting to get the respect he deserves. He is still better than many are aware, but I will go with David Ragan too, with a close second to Brian Vickers.

I agree as with the general media and casual Nascar reporter, but the knowledgeable media types are very aware of his ability.

I actually had Vickers on my originial post before changing it. He never had a shot at Hendrick and now that Toyota is finally getting some good resources with Gibbs he's been a great driver. I'd throw Reutimann in there as well. He was great as a Busch driver last year against all the cups guys and he's been great in garbage equipment this year.

To be underrated, I think you first need to really succeed and not get noticed doing it. What has David Ragan done to get noticed? Had a few good finishes? Vickers has one race at Talladega. I'll go with Jeff Burton. He's won races, is near the top of the points, runs consistently every week and rarely gets talked about as one of the better drivers.

I thought about Burton but he received a good bit of press this year for leading the points... Bowyer doesnt even get tv time during the race, I never see him

Bowyer is a good one. He won Richmond but nobody talks about that of course.

I hate to sound like a homer, but I think Martin Truex Jr. is underrated. He has won 2 Busch Series Championships and made the Chase last year, yet he is never talked about.

Homer! I agree, I thought about him too. I went with Ragan based on potential that is overlooked by most. I think Boyer, Burton and to a lesser degree Truex get more notice than Ragan by far.

Until he does it on the big stage, Logano is overrated. I heard the other day that the kid already has a nickname for himself. Give me a break. There's more Casey Atwoods then there are Kyle Buschs.

Someone needs to understand sarcasm a little bit better

How in the world can a guy that's never set foot in any of the 3 major Nascar series be rated? He's yet to race against guys with equipment as competitive as his since he was just a little kid. Good Lord, the kid was on First Take on ESPN today. Anyone with the nickname "sliced bread" is not underated
