Most Underrated Vols Ever

He has not been spectacular in the NFL, but I like Raynoch Thompson. He was a good linebacker, that always played through his injuries and played well. He is not the most underrated, but hardly mentioned.

I think there are several that could fit into this category, but one I have always thought of as being underrated was Eric Lane who played fullback for us. He was really undersized for the position, but he didn't play like it. He always seemed to be a team player, and always wanted to do whatever he could to help the team succeed. Another one I should bring up would probably be former LB Nick Jester. I saw him make several fantastic plays while he was here at Tennessee, but he never gets mentioned that much.

Greg Amsler and Phillip Crosby come to mind. Of course, the fb has never been a glamour position.

I'd say James Stewart. He got some recognition in the end, but seemed to always play second fiddle to either Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning or Charlie Garner. For 4 years he was one of the most reliable running backs you could ask for.

It may sound funny, but Jimmy Johnson always said this about Bill Bates:

"Every year I've come into training camp with my mind made up to cut him, and yet he continues to show me each year why I can't."

Remember Darryl Hardy? Blocked the field goal that turned around the epic ND come from behind victory. He was a strong player.

What about Jermaine Copeland?

he had a very solid year in Canada. If he hadn't of broken his collarbone during training camp, he would've easily made the Cowboys roster 2 years ago.

Anybody remember Chris White? He only led the nation in INTs during that great 85 season.

He is probably the most underrated VOL ever.

Good call! Chris White, Dale Jones, Mark Hovanic, Andre Creamer . . . that was a fun defense to watch.

Anybody remember Shane Bonham? That was a guy with lots of sacks made it to the pros and never gets mentioned. Also came all the way from Alaska to play for the vols. Got to agree with Eric Parker, too. Met him after a game at a tailgate. Great parents, good humble attitude and making a name for himself with the surging Chargers.
