Mount Rushmore of pro QBs

Brady
Elway
Montana
Manning
Marino
Favre

Can't leave off Favre. His last few years weren't great, but he was an iron man in Green Bay for a long time. Marino never won a 'ship, but it's hard to argue he isn't among the greatest ever.

My mountain is modified to include 6 faces.

I assume this is different than best four. I'm talking about the most important men at the position:

Johnny Unitas
Dan Marino
Steve Young
Peyton Manning

Sammy Baugh would have to be there if you're talking most important

if there is a regular season mount rushmore, peyton belongs on it.

if there is a playoff mount rushmore, i'd rather have eli.

i'm not kidding either

Ah, the old, stupid argument that because one performs in the playoffs better, they are more clutch than said someone else.

Where was Eli's clutchness in Week 16?

I pretty much agree with your 4, although I'll admit I've always thought Elway was overrated. I wouldn't complain if you were to switch out him with Marino, or maybe even Favre.

Agreed. Marino is easily better than Elway imo. I've always thought Elway and Aikman were overrated.

The power of Elway kept his otherwise crummy team at the top of the defensive and rushing rankings? Sounds like Verne Lundquist talking about Tebow.

EDIT: possible my sarcasm detector is off. If so, ignore.

Wasn't Elway also a more mobile QB at that point in his career?

Elway was not overrated. I seen him at least twice a year carry the donks on his own his entire career. He belongs in the top 4 talk. His game is what RG3 is patterned on. Except he could actually carry a team for more than a year.

I agree Favre should be up there too. Sammy Baugh is a given.

Elway carried mediocre teams to Super Bowls on multiple occasions. You can make a legitimate argument he's the best ever.

Montana
Elway
Unitas
Brady

The AFC being a joke back then is one of the reasons why. The Broncos were slaughtered in those 3 super bowl appearances in the 80's. The NFC was far superior in those days.

I'd put him in my top 5 or 6, but his career passer rating was 79.9, and he was never even a first team all pro selection.

Maybe "overrated" is too strong a term, because he could do a lot of good things with his legs too, but I watched him play many times, and I have a hard time putting him in my top 4, and I certainly wouldn't consider him the best ever.

Thank you for your stance on Elway. It baffles me how disrespected he is.

It's not as much disrespect towards Elway as much as it is me simply thinking that others were better.

For some perspective, if I was to start a team, and I had to pick one QB in his prime to be my starter, here's who I would pick:

1. Joe Montana
2. Tom Brady
3. Peyton Manning
4. Steve Young
5. Dan Marino/John Elway
6. Dan Marino/John Elway
7. Brett Favre

My top 4 are set in stone. In their primes, those are the 4 greatest QB's that I've ever seen play, and I saw a lot of John Elway's prime. I would have him in that 2nd tier with Marino and Favre as an individual player, even though he had more post season success.

Montana
Brady
Marino
Young

Young is on mine, cause dude was a blast to watch. One of my favorite players ever, dude was tough as nails, and reckless as hell.
