If one were a rat..who would want to be around a bunch of other rats?
I wonder if the Utopia dimensions changed with 2.5K. I would equate it to a big crowded city. Why when in country everyone is generally friendly and open..but opposite it the city. Of course everybody needs their space.

I remember the old days when out in country just going down a road people waved at you.

Certainly an interesting read. The part about the males abandoning their women, then the women abandoning their kids, then the kids ending up with all these screwed up social skills and weird behavior. Dare I say it. The father.

Dang...good perpective.

I think the parallels are further stretched, beyond rat vs human evolution. But also our society. Our alphas are open to just about anyone and not based on physical stature. And as they pointed out humans have a lot more ways to find meaning/development than a rat does.

Then you have personal moral/rthics/creeds, science, technology etc and trying to draw lines between rats and humans gets really stretched.

I’m torn between mercilessly berating you for this clear metro behavior or congratulating you for having an open mind. I’m the end I’ll guess you really don’t care either way so… 😂

Lol I’m oddly turned on by both of you .

After reading it a couple of times , trying to add and take away the mouse vs human society comparisons like nature vs nurture , big brain vs small brain , evil vs good , free will vs natural drive , man made laws vs natural laws , I’ve settled on a very basic conclusion … I think that when any species is given more than we need to survive , in absorbent excess , without having to work for it , without having to struggle , without any type of strife , or consequences , left to it’s own devices , they will become complacent, and bored . I think this is where an abnormal or deviant behavior will form and start growing until the normal or natural behavior is gone , leading to its own destruction. The example I would use here would be , almost all kings , true dictators and their royals families . ( JMHO )

Very interesting. Seems vaguely familiar, but cannot recall specifically reading about it before.

Does make one wonder about some of the behaviors observed in our larger cities and some of the shattering of long-held social norms, such as close to 20% of teenage girls now claiming to be lesbian and in some parts of the country the obsession with mutilating children in the name of gender transitioning.

I've wondered if we are too connected by social media. I like the aspect of being able to maintain ties to family, but have lost the socialization of close friends locally. Growing up, we routinely had other families over and vice versa. How many kids today have any idea about playing hide and go seek other kids with after dark? We'd play for hours, all ages. Is the replacement of socialization by virtual means a good thing vs. the old way of in person?

Great post. I began to notice the lack of teenagers and pre teens....as well as people in their 20s wanting to get together in large groups and socialize with one another and even date in some cases. This all seemed to ramp up significantly during the social media boom.

Yes, I've heard dating has changed a good bit and declined in frequency. Good Lord, it would drive me nuts to not have a date on Saturday night when I was in HS.

In Rotary this morning, several of us were talking after the meeting and, while I've read one or two research articles on it (real ones! Not Playboy! LOL), a couple of the guys talked about how prevalent watching porn is among young boys. One, a family practice lawyer, said he had friends who had to take away their nine-year-old's phone because of it!

My first question would have been WTF does your 9yo have a phone?

I used to ask that, but seems that ship has sailed for the moment. I don't believe it is a good thing in general. It does allow access to things that probably should not be seen.

The other fellow I was talking to was with the Sheriff's Department previously and was talking about how the kids are downloading vpn client software to allow them to bypass the tracking so they can visit porn sites while they are at school!

I learned quickly that kids are almost always smarter than their parents when it comes to tech.

Gonna be some warped perspectives. Porn was hard to get when I was a kid. We might find an old magazine discarded on a dirt road or get a mag from a guy’s older brother. But the instances of It were few and far between.

As mentioned earlier, I've read articles it is having a serious impact on young males and following them on into their twenties, etc.

Same here. I remember when I was a teenager and a friend of mine's dad installed a satellite, one of those big suckers that had to be moved and rotated to pick up the channel you wanted. He found the porn channels and of course suddenly everyone was having sleepovers at his house. That all ended when we forgot to crank the dish back down one night.

Lol. Had the exact same experience.

Good post. Reminds me of the thing like

Hard times make hard men
Hard men make easy times
Easy times make weak men
Weak men make hard times ...
Rinse and repeat.

Also, necessity being the mother of invention. Super interesting the cast outs improvised a method 1000x as efficient for removing detritus from their quarters...while not physically dominant they were clever...brains beat brawn in that instance. Super cool experiment and good article tho I disagree with the opines in the last paragraph

The fact that all of you are using metro and metrosexual in conversation shows your age. The fact I know that shows my age, wait, ****.

That's actually pretty astute, did Nursegoodvol write that for you? jk
