Move Croom to TE

This is one I have been saying since the offseason last year. That was the plan with Chaney. Jason was bulking up to over 230 lbs. Then this staff took over and felt they needed him at WR. with Malone and Pearson there is no doubt this needs to happen now. With North, Malone, Pearson, Pig and Croom - unstoppable.

Do u or anyone remember if CBJ said why Croom was moved to WR and taken off the TE regimen?? This def set him back some instead of keeping him there this year, and having a full season of actual play at the position.

At the end of the day the kid can be stud on the field, and seems to be a good kid too. He will do whatever it takes for the best of the team, but he can't be changing all the time. I'm sure he puts his all in preparing for the position he is going to play, but when u prepare for being a TE then moving back to WR it can be why his year was so unproductive.

Hope CBJ is able to find the use for him and get him ready to be the stud he can and should be in orange. After this year I'm on the fence on whether or not he can get players ready to play like so many said he would be able to, and not just needing to hang his hat on pure natural talent.

not sold on Pig. Very short, not a great play maker.

How about North and Malone on the outside and:

Slot: Pearson, Wharton, & Berry

Besides North, Pig is the only real playmaker the offense had at wr this season. But I get what you may be saying. Better options in the slot may come in this recruiting class.

Maybe Jason can play QB? Could only imagine defenders trying to tackle someone of his size running the read option. I'm reaching of course. But it's fun conjecture

I've been making this argument since the season started. Croom is too big to play WR and doesn't have the speed. He's 6'4, 230 or more--that's prototypical TE size. I don't know why he hasn't been a TE all along--I rate it as a serious screwup by the coaches. He caught only 14 or so passes all year at WR. He could have helped the offense MUCH MORE as a TE, running short routes, though I get that maybe his blocking isn't as good as it needs to be. Do you see what Brees and Brady and other NFL QBs do when they need four yards for a first down? Many times their TEs run five yards and turn around--that simple--and catch a pass. First down. It's call smart football. We need to play more smart football on offense.

I believe he was moved to WR bc of depth issues. With all the horses coming in at the position, his skills can be used more effectively elsewhere.

Croom is a man among boys. This was his first year for playing time and if he hadnt broken his collar bone he would have probably put up well over 100 yards against kentucky. He will be a really good experienced reciever for us next year. I dont like this changing positions nonsense, we need kids to be good at the position they are playing. I think quite a few kids on the roster suffered from changing too much. Helm and Wolf should provide more than enough depth for us at TE. Thats my 2 cents.

Coaches must be pinching themselves. Let's see next year which 6ft 4 in 200 plus lb WR do I start. Let's see, got a couple of 5 stars and a bunch of 4 stars, hmmm.

Devrin Young may earn a position as a slot receiver. He looked good against UK. I think Butch has a great problem next season in that there is going to be a lot of talent at the WR position. So who do you start? What about Harris? Wharton? Johnson? Or on the long shot we land Jackson, do we line him up at WR some?

These are great problems to have and I am happy we have them :D

Croom won't be a TE. And Hurd won't be a TE, LB, or whatever else you all wanna make him. Croom looked really good in the UK game and will have a role in the WR corps next year.

I have a feeling North, Pig, Pearson, Croom, Johnson, Malone, Young and others will have no problem with the amount of playing time they'll receive next fall.

We have some awesome TE's coming in. Butch likes to run WR's in and out so we need about six top guys Croom is one of them.

How bout let's just let the coaches do what they feel is right. Then run up the score on these SEC jokers.

Between:

North, Croom, Howard, Johnson, Young and Ryan Jenkins I'm sure the coaches would have enough to consider without adding in Pearson and Malone.

I do think the coaches could look at tape of guys like Cameron Jordon, Gronk, Graham, etc and realize the age of true blocking TEs is dying. Those guys are basically just big WRs that exploit matchups on shorter/slower LBs. Croom would fit the makeup of the hybrid-TE the NFL is gunning for.

An empty backfield with Croom at TE (really just bump and route WR) and North/Howard/Young/Malone at WR could be pretty deadly. Also, again, don't discount Ryan Jenkins.

Put him in the backfield and throw it out to him on a wheel route like they did to AJ Branisel in the Georgia game. Move him around the line of scrimmage as well. Put him as TE, WR, FB. Croom on any LB/S will be a win with his height and speed.

Croom and Helm both at TE with North, Malone, Pearson, and Pig as our main receivers. Talk about weapons

I agree with all of this. Whoever the QB ends up being will have little excuse to not rack up yards passing. Especially with Lane and Hurd in the backfield.

Malone hasn't even practiced at UT yet. I understand the hype, but give it a little while before wanting to move Croom to TE.

I don't think people are saying this because Malone is coming in. I heard talk of this 2 months ago. He has a bigger build than most wide receivers and most people are speculating that he would fit better as a tight end in general. Nothing to do with Malone imo.
