Insidious 2 5/10

So I watched Insidious 2 tonight. I haven't seen the first one and I never like watching a series out of sync but I happened to be at a friends house and they turned on Netflix and the first Insidious wasn't available so I reluctantly settled for that.

This movie just really wasn't scary, like at all. In fact it had the run of the mill stupid crap happening in it that you see in every horror movie. They made an attempt to make it a somewhat complex story but they even failed at that.

Ant-Man 8/10: I wasn't expecting much because the premise seems silly to me, but it was pretty entertaining. Good laughs throughout. I was entertained.

Southpaw 9/10: Really liked this one. Gyllenhall is a pretty good actor, really gets into his characters. A couple of dusty scenes, good fights, a few laughs, Rachel McAdams. Worth a watch.

lulz, even though I didn't see a decimal place there, I read it as Insidious 2.5/10.

I can't believe Southpaw is good. They show you the entire movie plot in the trailer and it totally turned me off.

well you might not be completely wrong, as it has received pretty mixed reviews so far. bout 50% on RT so far.

of course, just because the trailer was done poorly/shows most of the film, doesn't automatically mean it's gonna suck.

Not saying it would suck i'm just saying showing all plot twists ruined it

sorry i guess. the bold seemed to imply you couldn't believe it was good, which means you believed it was going to be bad.

honestly though, i do agree that they should have cut some stuff out of the trailer. still, i'm pretty intrigued to see it.

Escape ("Flukt") - 6/10 Norwegian film set in the 14th Century about a young girl escaping from the gang that killed the rest of her family. Despite some serious plot holes and leaps of logic, it's mildly entertaining.

Max (2015)
8.4 out of 10

It has a happy ending and is one great dog movie. May be the greatest dog movie I've ever seen.

2 Complaints of things I couldn't overlook for why it lost points. Not so much points but enough it doesn't get in the 9 range.
The dull cliche of a Mexican family with Chihuahuas it's as highly unoriginal as Russians being depicted as callous brutal villains in American Tv shows and Cinema.
Also one of the trained to kill rottweiler dogs no doubt dies when it gets knocked into the river and can't get out as the rapids carry down the river to a long water fall.

From what I saw on Max's face he wanted to win the fight but never kill the dog or put him in a helpless situation as Max looked unhappy to see the dog in the water and unable to escape as the rapid pushed the dog down the river.
Proving to be smart he refused to attempt to save the dog seeing the rapid is to powerful for him to overcome.

Kyle is a Marine that has been training with the dog to make him one of the best. The Dog makes a bust finding a huge arsenal of weapons that were going to be sold to the Terrorist Group the Taliban.
Kyle ends up dying in a gun fight, the dog ends up surviving wounded but still alive harmed by a enemy grenade since he wasn't directly where the explosion was.
As expected the dog injured goes into hostile mode.
Kyle dies in the gun fight when pinned down calls to Tyler for help who hesitates and he's shot.

2 things Foreshadowing that Kyle's best friend that is Tyler is a Villain or Black Hat. The dog goes into attack hostile mode when it sees him at Justin's head, and his story of how Kyle died was a lie to fool the dad that has Max made out to be a culprit which would result in the dad killing the dog which he almost did stopped by Justin.
Max does fight the Rottweiler kill dogs twice including the non injured from fight one in the climax.
Justin refuses to tell his dad what he saw knowing he would be killed leading to his dad to inquire what Kyle's best friend has in the storage unit which is guns.
The dad is taken hostage discovering it's illegal and bad where the Villains were planning to take him over the border before murdering him.

Also Max after escaping the Pound is able to find his way back to Justin's house. Justin along with Max plus Carmen and Chuy all knowing the dire situation unite to save his dad.
This leads to a great showdown where cunning gets shown multiple times, and the dog does shine when needed the most in the climax that involves the main villain and Justin. Also the dog proves to be a great swimmer.

Since Justin doesn't think being in the Marines makes one a man and is moody it helps to create tension between him and his dad, it decreases as the movie goes on as they really bond greatly in the showdown vs the Villains.
The mom Pamela played by Lauren Graham proves to be Miss.Sunshine as I really can't recall her character being unlikable in any scenes.

Justin's best friend is Chuy and has a cousin Carmen. It's not obvious Carmen likes Justin but is revealed late in the movie.

It is revealed in a short scene not taking up that long why Tyler took up the negative life of becoming a Illegal Guns Dealer.
It's Kyle that wanted to be a hero, he died while serving in the Marines so Tyler concludes heroism isn't likely to work out, go on the dark path of illegal guns dealer which he does that he knows he can prosper in and says he's realistic.

Also he's aware this make him bad so self aware he's in bad territory as he brings up the guys he sells the guns to are badder than him warning Justin to not get involved again in attempting to watch and bust them.

So it's revealed his motive in a short time proving you don't need to develop a Villain in a Movie as you can reveal shortly how they got onto the destructive negative path it can be done shortly in one scene that could take up a minute maybe 3 minutes at most.
Not all Villains can be developed including ones in Super Hero movies but that doesn't mean you can't reveal their motives to how they got on the destructive path. It doesn't take that long, and not that damn hard.

Since a Deputy is involved in the Illegal Guns dealing and Justin left his bike, plus a enforcer dog was injured by Max ending up going into protect defensive mode biting the Deputy so perfect frame job that it was Max's dog along with the bike on private property.
The Dog Max a Elite Military War Dog is the Star in this movie. He ends up escaping from the instrument that Animal control uses around a dog's neck, also running then jumping a tall straight fence that looks like it might be the height of a Ford F-150.

In the Biking through the woods scene the dog keeps up at a high speed which is impressive because there are multiple trees and the terrain is a uneven with Max getting past Justin.
The dog could easily I don't doubt outlast and run down the Oregon Ducks Offense. That and be hard to tackle if he recovered a fumble.
