MTV's "The Challenge" Thread

Bananas and Derrick broke everything down that seems to be misunderstood about this episode...the reason there was a rift between era 3 and era 4 is because Devin tried to go to era 2 to make a deal to team up for the next comp. Johnny told his guys "don't make any deals. Make 3 and 4 go directly against each other." and then he went and told people about this. Then Corey tries to make a deal during the comp. Later admits that he wouldn't have kept it. And he's fkn mad at everybody and Josh and Theo look like they're off the reservation when there is reason to be not adhering to the 3 + 4 thing.

Also, I lost a lot of respect for Horacio. Apparently, he cried so much publicly about his loss that production sent him the raw footage (they have never done anything like this before) where they clearly explain the rules and Derrick finishes first by 12 seconds, and instead of going back to the internet and fully restoring the integrity of the game. He tells the public that he saw the raw footage of Derrick winning but he's still not quite sure. He's such a baby.

Corey is a lot like Brad imo. Decent competitor and a good athlete; but has a tendency to come up small in eliminations.

Corey is worse than Brad in that regard but still.

It's interesting to look at people's elimination records. Almost nobody has a good record. Johnny, CT, and Aneesa are all right at .500. Corey actually has one of the best ones (8-4), but that's not necessarily saying much when you consider some of the wins (1-legged Derrick, for example).

Looking thru Cory's elimination history, it's questionable. Most of his early wins were in 2 on 2 eliminations, and IDK how to judge those on paper.

Individually, he beat Nelly once, lost to Nelly once, lost to Hunter twice, and lost to comedian Matt Rife (how embarrassing), and he lost to Logan (the dude from Spain). Basically, the wins are against nobodies except the Nelly one, and then in recent years he's beat up on era 1 (Darrell, Brad, and 1-legged Derrick), LOL.

Cory hasn't beat a peer in an individual elimination since Dirty 30.

Also, this wiki includes eliminations that technically aren't The Challenge (like Champs vs. Stars)

Decent episode last night. Best part was the seasonal Josh cry fest.

Power house elimination match up but kind of a weird elimination overall.

Considering most of this season has been more about strategy/brains than physical - this really eliminated two players who realistically could have won.

Hats off to Rachel.

Don’t really have a rooting interest this season as far as who wins - i just hope it isn’t Johnny. So glad to see he’s a target next week. Gun to my head, and I’ll probably say I want Jordan to win it all out of the remaining

Rachel was on Bananas pod. A few highlights:

Rachel kicked everybody's ass so bad, everybody knew she won. In fact, everybody knew Nehemiah was 2nd. The edit made it seem close.

They are *****ing all over Devin on this pod. They're not going for the obvious "WTF was he doing in the elimination" so much as his social game. He's a buffoon.

He declares vendetta war against Johnny which puts his entire alliance under threat, which is why Michelle pushed back on him.

He doesn't understand that this isn't a numbers game. He's still stuck in Ride or Die mode. The game changes every season and people don't adapt. Devin's one of them. It doesn't matter how many numbers you have, what matters to a male competitor like Devin is the 1 female coming out of the arena and the 2 people who win the dailys.

Rachel is a great competitor and so Devin should have made friends with her immediately. Her numbers diminish so she has to be a selection every time, which means she has a good chance of coming out of the arena and picking targets. Devin should have been kissing her ass, but instead he's sitting around telling everybody he has the highest IQ on the show (she said he claimed this several times this season) and he's chasing personal vendettas because he mistakenly finds safety in his numbers.

Against Ryan and Derrick. Who knows how much will change with the rules next week, but if he's only gonna go against one of the two of them, and then have power to pick targets....not sure this was a good strategy for hurting Bananas' game.

Touché. Didn’t consider that.

Ryan and Derrick both have done nothing this season. Derrick especially.

Era 4 and Era 3 are fracturing. It's to the point where there are only 3 female options from 1 and 2, and only 2 male options after next week. They're going to have to start directly saying each other's names. None of this, "Josh didn't save my game for me." crybaby BS. If that triggered them, just wait.

This elimination seemed to harken back to the old days of the challenge.

I personally wasn’t a big fan of it. Now, granted there’s probably not much Ryan could actually beat Johnny at - but how about having the eliminations have at least some level of physical or mental emphasis - if not a combination.

Episode overall was decent. Not surprised Johnny threw a temper tantrum at being nominated. I’m proud of Jordan and Tori by making a power move.

Looking at the remaining cast - save for 2 or 3 players - it’s full of heavy hitters. Should make for a good and to the season and ultimately a hopefully competitive finale.

That said - should we be lucky enough to get a Rachel vs Laurel or Cara vs Tori (etc) elimination, please let it be something legit instead of a “drive these toddler quads around hay bales and snatch a flag” type elimination.

It did. You think rounding those corners with 8" of sand creating a quagmire didn't require any strategy, physicality, or feel for the bike? Ryan lost round 2 because he couldn't stand on the bike while it was moving. He lost round 1 because he couldn't figure out how to control the bike.

It was also super entertaining, and I was laughing my ass off. Compared to most eliminations, you actually knew everything that was happening. They do so much with the edits to manipulate a narrative, and that's the thing that drives me nuts about this show. They make it look close when it's not. But with this one, there was no confusion about how they were doing. It was almost like watching an actual live event.

Man, I loved that episode. You just need Johnny out so you can enjoy things.

I want the dumb emotional crybaby Josh out more than anything. Johnny isn’t bothering me so much this season, but no I don’t want to see him win. I stand by what I said - not surprised he threw a tantrum when nominated as he always does. And I appreciate people in power finally making a power play.

That was great TV. It's weird for your friend to throw you in because of an interpersonal issue that has nothing to do with her, and hurts both people's games. I probably would have freaked out, too.

Maybe but he cries every time he’s even on the block, let alone getting nominated.

Besides - this isn’t early in the season. Were in deep enough where the realization that there will be one winner and people need to play as such. If you have a chance to eliminate a multiple time winner, you’re foolish not to. “Friendship” or not.

WTH would Ryan even beat Johnny at? You're not eliminating Johnny by throwing him in against Ryan. She didn't do it for game reasons or because there weren't enough people left to nominate.

It's just funny to me that Johnny's always the bad guy when everybody else betrays him first. He's legitimately a villain because of the way he treats the other side of the house, but that's the game.

Johnny's an old guy. He's not anymore dangerous than Kyland or Theo. I'm not even sure he beats Cory anymore. Is she friends with Nehemiah? Why was he not a target. Weird.

Johnny is like a seven time winner and a literal “professional” challenger. He spends offseasons training for these, where as most others are mostly just in shape but live lives outside of the challenge.

CT is about two years older than Johnny but just won the last two seasons iirc.

Anything can happen in an elimination. We’ve seen Ammo beat someone. We’ve seen Jay beat CT. Etc.

So again if you have a chance to throw him in at this point in the season, you do it.

Jay is good at comps.

Season 40 is so stacked, tho.

CT won seasons 36 and 37 , and both had a lot to do with the fact that you ran the final with a female partner, and he had a great draw in both cases (Amber, because she could run better than anybody, and Casey is just a straight up beast). The men in the 36 final were Kyle, Devin, and Nelson. 37 was Cory, Leroy, and Fessy. Not exactly a murderers row of finals talents.

If the best guy remaining were Cory, then I would definitely say Bananas is a huge concern, but that's not the case.

These are the tiers, IMO

Jordan

Kyland

Theo, Bananas, Cory

Nehemiah

Derek

And now if Bananas beats Tori and it's up to him to split the $, guess what's happening?

Searched it and had the episode spoiled, unfortunately. Some people are finding it on youtubetv under the Extras option when you go to the series. I do not have an Extras option.
