Much Aidoo About Nothing

What does that have to do with his family hoping he would RS though?

Basilio doesn’t know the difference between the current redshirt rules (zero game participation) and the medical hardship waiver process. The medical “redshirt” allows playing in 30% of games which must be in the first half of the season. A debilitating injury or illness must be documented and approved (by the league on behalf of the NCAA). So with the mono and leg injury Aidoo was well positioned to win an appeal for the medical waiver. Having now played in the second half of the season, it is no longer an option.

Diboundje might still meet the medical hardship criteria, but if he has had a health condition it has been kept quiet. His last game was the 16th of 30 (at Kentucky), but I’m not clear if the 50% rule applies to only the regular season or if post season is included (which with at least 32 total, the 16th is in the first 50%).

His redshirt had already been burned. He played in a couple of the early OOC games in garbage time. In basketball your redshirt is burned the moment you check into any game. The only redshirt he could’ve gotten after that is a medical redshirt if he had a season ending injury. But now that he’s played in the second half of the season, that’s off the table too.
I think they likely were assuming the football rule would be passed and thus a retroactive redshirt would be on the table.

It is interesting that both Aidoo and Diboundje were paused at 6 games each. Diboundje is still at 6 since the game at Rupp. I thought that QD and Mashack were very close in ability, but Mashack is now participating in about every game while Quentin sits. Gives credence to a retro-active rule change possibility.

Aidoo is currently 10 lbs heavier than Alexander was as a senior. I wouldn't call him slim, necessarily. Commentary on his size seems a little overblown, though he needs to add some muscle in his upper body. Mono probably hurt him in that area. He has a good frame and will likely add 10-15 lbs.
He’s got some broad shoulders that will accommodate that extra 10-15 pounds. On another note, Tamba now looks more sculpted than earlier. Bigger biceps and shoulders than before.

The belief is that the NCAA will reform the redshirt guidelines to similarly match the structure of football's guidelines. The hope among NCAA coaches is that it becomes retroactive for current players.

Good article about Jonas in the KNS this morning with a big picture supposedly showing him shooting over Thiebwe. And the caption says it’s Jonas. Too bad it’s #2 (BHH) doing the shooting. Sometimes I wonder if anybody pays attention at these newspapers anymore.
