GOP Wants Answers on Missing and Wiped Mueller Team Phones

Two Republican senators are pressing for answers about apparently missing phones belonging to special counsel Robert Mueller’s Trump-Russia investigative team that the Justice Department cannot locate, per its watchdog.

Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin told Attorney General Merrick Garland they are “asking the Justice Department for more information and records” after learning that the DOJ “could not locate 59 of the 96 phones” used by Mueller’s team and after discovering that the department “failed to review over twenty phones for federal record preservation.”

DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz wrote to Johnson and Grassley in May, noting in a letter obtained by the Washington Examiner that the DOJ's Justice Management Division took possession of 79 of 96 Mueller team phones in a property transfer from the special counsel's office in June 2019. A DOJ iPhone record review spreadsheet documented that only approximately 74 of the phones were reviewed for records. Horowitz said that records such as notes and text messages were sent to DOJ or FBI email systems for preservation.

Horowitz detailed the location of some of the phones, including the devices belonging to former FBI lawyer Lisa Page and fired FBI special agent Peter Strzok, which remain secured in a safe at the DOJ, but the inspector general said the DOJ's JMD currently does not know the whereabouts of 59 of the 96 team phones.

New York Times tries to keep 'collusion' possibility alive with lawsuit for 'Alternative Mueller Report'

The New York Times filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit seeking access to the “Alternative Mueller Report” allegedly compiled by former special counsel team leader Andrew Weissmann, who publicly battled with special counsel Robert Mueller last year after Mueller’s report “did not establish” any Trump-Russia conspiracy in 2016.

Weissmann claimed in his book, Where The Law Ends, that the Mueller investigation had been limited, writing last year: “Only some of these limitations made it into the final report, as Team M [Manafort] and Team R [Russia] did not have the pen — that is, the final say. To remedy this, at least for posterity, I had all the members of Team M write up an internal report memorializing everything we found, our conclusions, and the limitations on the investigation, and provided it to the other team leaders as well as had it maintained in our files.”

The New York Times referenced that passage, telling the court it “sought a copy of the internal report done by Mr. Weissman’s team (the ‘Alternative Mueller Report’) referenced in Weissman’s book” and called it “a document of immense public interest” in claiming that “Weissman’s acknowledgment of the existence of the Alternative Mueller Report suggests that there was important facts or findings omitted from the original version.”

The Dems aren't scared of Trump. He lost to fing Biden. As a Republican I am scared Trump gets the nomination again. If you can lose to Biden you can lose to anyone.

Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California is still angry about former FBI director Robert Mueller’s 2019 congressional testimony.

The congressman is angry that Mueller's appearance before Congress produced no damning new evidence proving former President Donald Trump conspired with Russia to steal the 2016 election. Schiff is angry that Mueller underwhelmed. Most of all, the congressman is angry that the testimony failed to revive the Russia collusion narrative after it was effectively euthanized by the release of the special counsel’s report.

Schiff must be incorrect. We’ve got it on very good authority that the Mueller report contains very damning information what gives? Can that idiot Schiff not see it? 🤷‍♂️
