Muffett Speaks the Truth

Geno was certainly something of an a$$ early in his his UConn coaching career--but he hasn't been that way for years. He's mellowed out a lot---and he's perfectly entitled to snap back at McGraw, because she started what is now a little tiff. (McGraw was a great coach, by the way, and it's too bad we didn't have her, or someone like her, following Summitt.) Say what you want about Geno, he's been a great coach for a long time. If we're candid, he coached circles around Summitt with respect to team offense, and that is why he was 4-0 against us, I believe, in national title games.

Take this ish back to the bone yard. He’s still an immature jerk and nothing about his response was appropriate or professional. I’ve seen other coaches fired for way less.

Matthew Bartelson is ucbart on the Boneyard. Check out the Twitter account of this guy. Him being a gay man I would have expected him to be brighter and FAR less of a racist bigot than he obviously is. Pity.

I don't even want to look ... but just from that comment i can tell he is an upstanding citizen. I want to say more but i won't do personal attacks like the coach he roots for 🙄

Why the hell is a grown ass man getting into a Twitter feud with a college student athlete who doesn't know him? In the words of our former president..."SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Been engaging with ucbart for years on various message boards back to when he was a college student. Damn, he old now (don't ask what that makes me, please...)
UCbart is an ass on every board he goes too. You say anything about Geno or UCONN and he's like the prosecutors daughter coming out the woodworks to defend with that stank attitude. I literally wish i could block him on each board but only so many have that feature.

Go back to the Boneyard , no one could ever coach circles around Pat. Yes he won National title games but the overall record speaks sthu .

If we are also being candid he kept one of the greatest players in the game off the olympic team on one of the biggest stages in the world because of his petty feud. "well he still won", yes but we could field the gold, silver. and bronze medals team and that had nothing to do with him but the overall strength of college coaches and the growth in professional coaching. Bobby Knight had tremendous success and was looked up to but being great in success and being a total d0u(#£ wad are not mutually exclusive.

He did however beat Pat in championship games correct but let's also not forget Pats teams kept him from a title or two. Also like Candace said he didn't win a title when she was playing😂 Ya know why they weren't good enough to get there...

He has been wildly successful and he has one of the most polarizing players in the game yes but there are people who aren't just anti uconn because they see the women's game growing and want more exposure for other teams.

As Big as Coach K is and this being his last season there are multiple stories covering multiple programs like Gonzaga and Baylor and the parity that is in the men's game. Now that we are seeing some of this in the women's game people want more coverage and to me that's ok.

In short wildly successful with the most championships (not wins) but also a tool which as you stated is a downgrade in the total a$$ he used to be😂

Yeah, it's been awhile. Mostly on the ESPN board. I didn't really read RebKell much and mostly lurk on the BY. I personally haven't had issues with him, especially compared to other UConn fans, so it was surprising to see such a pathetic response from him to Brunelle.

Part of being successful is creating a culture that respects and empowers women I positive ways. Geno has never done so. Therefore, he is not even in my top 20 best coaches.

If I were a fan at the CONN game, I'd try to get on camera holding a big sign saying, "Hey, Geno! 1400 >1200."

Somebody needs to go to meme generator with a shot of Pat talking to Geno and do that.

Hope I live long enough to see Kellie lead us past CONNU for total championships.

Ha! Completely forgot about that guy. Reminds me of when Betty Bean handed him his @$s once when he came to the little guy's defense. Wish I had a copy of that thread too.

Oh no, no no, we're not doing that one. That "4-0 against Pat in title games" is a talking point straight out of the Boneyard playbook. Nuh uh. Back that up and put it back in the barn.

Maybe - just maybe - Geno was 4-0 against Pat in title games because she was really good at getting teams to exceed their expectations and play their way to the title game. She made the Final Four 18 times in 31 years, she knew how to survive and advance, and that got her teams into the Final Four on a regular basis. And maybe - just maybe - Geno wasn't good enough to get his "less talented" teams to exceed their expectations and play their way to the title game. Had UConn made it to the title game in 1998, or 2007, or 2008, Tennessee would have chased them right off the court.

The real answer though, is that UConn had Taurasi playing for them during that early 2000s run, and she is one of the most talented players to ever play, and having (Holdsclaw) the best player (Moore) can do a lot (Parker) for a team's chances in this sport.

But this "Geno coached circles around Pat and 4-0 proves it" stuff can go right off a cliff.

Nobody is taking anything away from him as far as his accomplishments etc...NOBODY ! Not even McGraw she actually complimented the program and him. She's a respected successful coach who was being asked basketball questions on a basketball show..lol The issue is why does an accomplished 67 yo man who's accomplished more than most in the women's game, considered to be one of the best best ever in the women's game feel so weak he attacks coaches and some recruits on a personal level. 67???? lol seriously!

It sounds like you are approving of his behavior because he's not as bad as in the past or because McGraw made very valid comments shared by many others ...She knows more than we do and has no reason lie and has more right to comment on the subject matter than most. Don't forget when he speaks he's representing Uconn. This is a professional arena. His behavior is far from professional or adult like.

He's "perfectly entitled to snap back at McGraw..."

That's the thing. What was he "snapping back" about? That she insulted his program by saying that it's success everyone was trying to achieve? Was it that? Or that he "won way more than anyone else" (except Tennessee, who he has won MORE than, but not WAAAAY more than. She was saying that he has won way more than she has) Was it THAT insult? Or that "We want to get where they are. That's what we want to be. We're trying to emulate them"? Yeah, now THAT is something to "snap back" about.

Good grief. That fool can snap all the way back on my ...

Never mind.

I'll add this. Over the past few years he's had a slew of talent more than almost any team with exception of maybe Baylor and SC..Yet lost to teams with a lot less talent in the NCAAs (AZ- the talent difference was huge on paper this is the same year Uconn beat Baylor on a HORRIBLE no call!) (Mississippi State again huge difference with talent). ND beat them twice in the semis over the last few years -Maybe it's Geno with the sour grapes against McGraw...Just sayin' Fact is you could seriously make the statement with all the talent on those teams including this year's team that he is underperforming.

Care to share the math? Are you counting head-to-head matchups? Just wondering how UConn has won more games?

I think most people recognize both she and he were referencing the number of national championships, not overall wins. 11 is more than 8, but WAY MORE than 2.

I didn't recognize it and I don't think I'm alone. I thought she was talking about how much Tennessee had won vs. how much everyone else had won. I'm sure Geno wanted to guide the conversation towards Natty's but I don't think that's what Muffett intended and I don't think she would mis-speak about it because she knows who's won what.
