I think it is funny that she told Britney Grinder to NEVER mention her sexual preference in interviews while at college. As if we all suspected otherwise. It is not that it was a well kept secret..... It was obvious!!!

What an idiot I love the part where she said "I don't care if I get fined", but i'm guessing she didn't see this type of punishment coming. Now that Griner's gone we probably won't be hearing much from her.

To me, mulkey is the perfect example of a good coach and a great coach. A good coach takes a once in a generation player like griner and under achieves. You give geno or pat griner? Three peat if not four. Geno won multiples with all his all time greats. Pat did it with hers. Mulkey got one amazing player and got her only title ever from it. They will be next to nothing compared to before.

Mulkey has won two championships. The first one in 2005. Baylor could be a top 10 team next year even though they lost a large proportion of their production.

What I meant was, did she win multiple with a team built for it?

Pat won two with Candace, Geno won three with Taurasi, Pat won three with the miques (mikes? how did they spell that even?)

Griner is the one player who should've single handedly won 3 titles in her time in college. Mulkey under achieved with her.

Got ya, and I agree. I think there were a lot of distractions during the Griner era with the lesbian secrecy issue, and Sims seemed to be somewhat of a loose cannon that didn't help with team chemistry. They did have the talent to dominate everyone. Goes to show that there is more to winning than talent. I guess we know that from what has been going on with the Lady Vols over the past 5 years.

See, I feel like that's the problem the ladies have had, no transcendant talent. Della don is that, griner was, silvya fowles was, diggins is one. I can't think of a player since candace that I've looked at on the ladies and said "yeah, that girl wins us a title no matter what." We've had lots of good and even a few greats, but in the women's game you need one player that is dominant on a different level. We've not had that, but I think we have one coming in next year.

Pat won in '96 and '97 with Holtzclaw. The other 2 "Meeks" were freshmen on the '98 ch. team.

I'm reserving judgement on Mercedes. I didn't think she showed #1 type talent in the games I saw. Perhaps she'll develop quickly, but I think it will take a couple of years for her to be a big factor. Bigs usually take awhile to mature. They're so use to playing against smaller kids in high school that they get blindsided when they come up against bigger, stronger, faster players in college. She's certainly no Candace. I'd be happy if she does as well as Elizabeth Williams. I don't see Tenn doing much against uconn the next 3 years. Perhaps when Mercedes is a Senior the LVs will have a shot at another title.

No doubt the Lady Vols have a shot (Holdsclaw, for sure).
If the Lady Vols didn't have a shot, why play the games? Look at what Louisville accomplished. Who expected that? Fight on.
