Piano since age 6. Guitar since age 15. Drums occasionally.

Roland stage piano, Taylor/Fender HM Strat/Epiphone Elitist LP through Mackie PA/monitors with pedal board, loops, and TC Electronics G-major, Pearl Exports.

I play everything from Dave to Townes to Sepultura. I write, too, so a lot of what I play and sing is original.

I play acoustic guitar, I own a beautiful Seagull. Been playing for almost 5 years. I've had a guitar since I was 12, but didn't get determined until college. I also play some piano, but I'm pretty limited on there. I took lessons and learned a lot, but I didn't practice enough to get good. I got a piano about a year ago and got completely obsessed. So I feel like I've improved a lot recently. I also freestyle like a mutha f***in gangsta. That's about it. Making music is pretty rad.

I was lucky enough to get into a soundcheck of Prince's a few years back. He was pretty loose and asked if there were any guitar players in the crowd of maybe 100 people.

He let people come up and play his guitar with his band. Anybody that wanted to.

Here is where this becomes relevant. Although I can play guitar pretty well, he would tell each person to play in the key of "C" or whatever. I didn't go up because I had no idea how to play in a certain key.

Don't laugh if you know music. I sorely wished I had taken some music lessons or guitar lessons prior to that moment.

Oh boy. That sucks man. You could have just played some Clapton, he plays in C a lot.

To over simplify, the first chord in the song is the key.

I played guitar for four or five years, but the onset of rigidity in my right hand and wrist caused me to give it up. I then discovered the dulcimer which I now have played for about three years. My hand does limit my ability, but I can play it fairly well. I play in an old time string band, and am the main vocalist. I sing with a Blues band and an Americana band. The latter is a new group that is gaining a bit of popularity. We have done 19 shows since about August, and have bookings for two to three shows a week. It is called Hundred Acres, and can be accessed on Reverbnation or facebook player. One of our lead man's original songs, The River Is Low, was just chosen for a TV promotion for Pointer Brand Jeans.
