my computer poll - thoughts?

good point. i remember a year or two ago, the game day guys were discussing their methods for voting in the AP poll, basically, how they came up with who was ranked where.....and it really was a mixed bag....head to head had something to do with it obviously, but i was surprised to hear how many of them used the "who would i think would win a game between x and y on neutral feild" and vote that way.....really odd to me. it basically took away what the team actually accomplished and based it solely on what they think might happen in a game that won't ever take place????

Agreed. I think it should be based on what happens on the field. If it were just a matter of who you think is the best team, then last year's title game very well could have been LSU vs. USC.

When choosing between teams that haven't played, with the same number of losses, that is exactly the standard I would use to rank them.

tressell admited on ESPN radio that he hasn't watched a Cal game in years and would have no idea where to rank them. Why do we continue to give ballots to people who a) don't watch the games and b) have every incentive to rank the teams they play higher than they actually deserve.

If I were an AD and my coach said he had been watching teams that aren't on our schedule enough to make an informed vote about them, I'd fire him immediately. The idea of a poll of active coaches has always been absurd.

agreed. to expect these guys who sleep in their office and study film 80 hours a week to know about any team they don't play is ridiculous.

What about SOS? If USC plays to their potential, they should be able to beat most teams. That said, given their mild performance against what is so far a very weak SOS, I think the Trojans have NO business being ranked.
