I hope the AD keeps all these type of emails in a special file. When things get better one day and these people start knocking down the door wanting thier season tix back and they just respond back with forwarding their whiny emails back.. And say you have been added to the waiting list...:shaking2:

I'm not getting rid of my tickets, but I don't think the OP should be mocked or derided or labeled a bad fan. At the end of the day, the only vote anyone outside the administration and board of trustees has on the direction of the program and university is their wallet. If you continue to buy tickets and donate when you don't like the direction, you've silenced yourself. This won't make the same splash as a booster canceling a Sky Box buy, but it does matter.

TheVol Tihts isn't any less of a fan for this attitude, and he's not wasting his time. He's sending the only rationale, lawful message that has any chance of being heard about Tennessee's downward spiral. It might not be heard by this A.D., but Hamilton and Dooley have both been fired for empty seats. That trend's going to continue the emptier the seats get. If Butch doesn't get it done, the TheVol Tihts email will speak volumes even from the trash can.

Thank you for a rational response. And I agree with everything you said.

UTAD,

I've been a hardcore volunteer fan my entire life. The University of Tennessee and its football program are dear to my heart. Unfortunately, the last few years have been extremely tough for Vols fans. Fulmer's time had passed, Kiffin was a disaster, and Dooley just couldn't get the job done. Mr. Cheek and Mr. Hart had the responsibility of making what could be the most pivotal hire in Tennessee football history. The program desperately needed a hire to unite a weary beat down fan base. Our brand has been tarnished. The seats aren't being filled. Fans have grown restless.

With the news today of the hiring of Butch Jones, I will not be purchasing season tickets this year. I am thoroughly disappointed and downright disgusted at our universities leadership with this hire. Vol fans will not blindly fill seats, purchase merchandise, and support a program that does not care about its fan base. The lack of organization and communication associated with this coaching search was embarrassing. With all due respect to Mr. Jones, he is not the person to unite and lead this football program back to prominence. This is a very sad and dark era in a once proud football program.

Earnestly,
A sick and tired of being sick and tired Vol fan.

So when we start winning and you try to buy back your season tickets, are u gonna post on here and admit you overreacted a bit too much.

This is not a Butch Jones bashing, but vol.E shares many of my thoughts. I have been extremely disappointed with this program for quite some time and just looking for a reason to be "all in" with it again. I felt in my heart and my gut that surely they couldn't mess this one up. The health of the program is in decline, the brand tarnished, and the fanbase polarizing more every day, so I just knew they would make a big hire to at least show they're TRYING to unite us and to show the rest of the SEC and nation that Tennessee refuses to stay down. I feel sucker-punched by how this entire process went down. This hire will be forgotten by the SEC and national media within two weeks while Malzahn, Beliema, Saban, Spurrier, Richt, Muschamp, Sumlin, and Franklin will still be getting media love.

Times are tough for a lot of Vol fans and I completely understand the lack of support, especially financially. It's not a matter of being "bad fans" or untrue to the university. It's about supporting a program that doesn't support you back. I hoped this hire would bring back my passion for this program, but I just cannot give my hard-earned money to this program. That would be akin to condoning this administrations pompous mentality. I may cheer for the tea,, but right now I feel sickened by the administration.

Again, this isn't a Butch Jones bash... I just think he has terrible bosses.

Whether we win or not has nothing to do with his reaction. We've been losing. We haven't had anyone in the administration acting with any competency at any aspect of their job to correct it. That's what he's reacting to, not future wins.

They might back into a great coach in Jones like we did with Summit back when we hired a random girl in her 20's because she was willing to drive the team van and wash uniforms. But it won't be because Jones is the culmination of a genius A.D. conducting a flawless coach hiring.

Listen, I'm not saying people should be naming their first-borns "Butch" over this hire. I'm pretty apprehensive over it, too. However, I am willing to wait and see what happens. I am sure that Coach Jones knows the expectations are high. Hopefully he can deliver. However, no coach would be a guarantee of success. Spurrier still hasn't won a Conference title at South Carolina, and he was considered a "home run" hire.

It is my opinion that the folks running around, pulling their hair out and naming this the "most worstest event in the history of everything" may be over-reacting a bit. I won't say anyone is or isn't a true fan. I understand being passionate. I just wish folks would calm down and not make us look like a bunch of lunatics.

Let me also say this... I hope Butch Jones hires a homerun staff, recruits studs, and outcoaches everyone. This is just my protest of how the Cheek/Hart Express handled this. I can't support that type of product in my business life or in my sports life.

Actually, what will happen is they will not only get good season tix, UT will thank them for returning to the fold. A lot of people on here clearly have not dealt with the Tennessee Fund or the Annual Giving Program. The more money you have, the louder it talks.

Sure I would. You have to understand though that this is not just a reaction to the Jones hire. Until proven otherwise, I will not support the current administration.

The key part was "I hope". Know it won't happen but just loved to see it. Also...if they were to say they are wait listed and things are good on the field I'm sure some people will respond with..."how much will it take to get me off the wait list?". Reel dem suckas in....

I'm not a big Butch Jones fan....i think UT could have done a lot better...that being said...its time to get behind him vols...He signed a 6 year contract...and you'd better believe we wont be in a position to buy him out in three years....The people spear heading this coaching search screwed up early and often....none of which has anything to do with Butch Jones....who turned down two other jobs waiting for this one....atleast he has standards?! Time to get behind him guys and girls...get excited about UT football...and show the recruits we believe in the guy at the helm...and if ya dont....FAKE IT

I agree with your premise. But he was actually waiting for the UL job if strong left. Not the UT job. Did he end up jumping a couple levels by diffult....yes! Can't blame him.

He has been rumored as a candidate for this job since it opened...he wasnt at the top of the list...but he was on the list...Is UL that much better than Colorado/Purdue? I dont believe it is...I think he wanted this job...and would have taken the UL job...cant blame him either way...but i think this is the one he set his sights on.

Some people happily accept whatever they are given. The sheep will follow to the very end, even as they go over the cliff.
Amen .....Gonna be lots of empty seats. We had a chance to do some thing special. We instead choose the cheapest way out.Well the cheap way is probley gonna cost this university several million dollars. If no one wanted just give Phil the job again. He has at least won on a high level and knows what it takes to compete at SEC level. With all respect to coach Jones he has no idea what he getting into. This is big boy football .No weak sisters of the poor on the schedule.I hope he succeeds but the odds are stacked against him.

He may have wanted it and set his eyes on it but frankly knew he was on the last resort "everyone else said no" list. Sound familiar???

He put the CU offer on hold for the UL job not the UT job. And no I don't think the UL job is better. Stability wise...h*llzzzzz yeah it is though. Like I said he jumped 2 spots by diffult. Wanted it yes. Which is great but let's be honest he was wayyyy down the list.

I wish him the best. But if he thinks that he's going to switch completely over to the spread from day one then he better ask Sal how that 3-4 transition went before he walks out the door. The Legion of the Miserable won't give him enough time.

My email to Hart is going to say something like "Thanks for making the decision a lot easier to save $3000 next year during the worst recession since the great depression."

Don't lose your faith Grudenites. I have heard from reliable sources that this is all still part of Hart's plan to announce the Gruden hire. Butch Jones is being paid a nice sum of cash by UT to take the job for a few weeks and then step down for undisclosed reasons. At this point, MNF will be over and Gruden will come to the rescue and be announced as our next head coach. Cinci will then rehire Jones after Hart sends them a nice donation. This was done bc Hart knew the fan base was getting restless so he needed a stopgap for a few weeks...that stopgap is Jones. In the meantime, Vic Grider is on the recruiting trail and letting out recruits know what is really up. Hart is a genius and it will be epic the way this will all play out!

Are you in Dallas? Standing near the grassy knoll?
