My expectations of Heupel year by year

Everyone always says you'll know by year 4 if you have a coach or not. Well we just made the playoff with a team that didn't have a ton of talent and people still want him fired. Doesn't make sense.
People are acting like we have the talent of a sunbelt team. It’s all played out. It’s an easy excuse for the ass beating we just took. Is there a gap? Sure. Is it as monstrous as some want to pretend? Nope. Coaches have to find ways to win. That’s the million dollar gig. OSU doesn’t have 30 pts more worth of talent than us a game.

The sky’s not falling now but when we absolutely get railroaded next year, this place is gonna start being a toxic waste.

My point is that we had a shot for this year to be special. But Heupel has some form of CTE where he makes dumb decisions sometimes. And that decision was riding Milton for the duration of 2023 when it was obvious he wasn’t a championship caliber QB. Nico should have been prepped for this run. And we lost to Arkansas because he wasn’t prepped.
And future NFL QB Milroe led Bama to two bad losses - one @ Vandy and one at Oklahoma. It happens. Nico would’ve been broken in half last yr. His family wanted him to sit the first yr, too.

It appears to me that they do, when motivated. We have plenty of talent, but we are in the big middle of SEC from a talent perspective, and just so happened to have a D that held things together. Am hoping this lopsided loss causes the same type of inward-looking evaluation in the off season, like what OSU went thru on a quicker time scale, after losing to Michigan. If OSU is a learning moment, the loss may help propel JH to make decisions quicker than he maybe would have otherwise done, than if we played another flawed team in playoffs like IU and we win...thinking we're closer than we actually are to being elite...we'll see.

Motivated being the key. We were not.

You found a guy. Weak that you took time on Christmas Eve to find one example to prove me wrong. Congrats.

And Merry Christmas

Just in case some don't know. This is a secondary level of douche that cannot be contained by a bag. Therefore is must be contained in a canoe and henceforth spend the rest of eternity floating down the river of douchery.

We have a coach, what is concerning is if he has hit his ceiling in year 4, given the difficulty experienced in the SEC play two years running with an inconsistent offense and the playoff collapse. First two years were marked by terrible play on the defensive side of the house.

10-2 with three (3) wins purchased for $3.6 million and a 6-2 record in conference, in light of this year's blow out in the first round of the playoff, might be harder to convince the committee Tennessee needs to be there next year if there are other SEC teams with identical records and no head to head competition or obvious tie breakers. In college football, you are no better today than your last game.

Anyone that wants CJH fired is just... stupid. Also any one thinking this season was a failure is stupid.

I do want CJH to get a handle on what I see is a significant discipline issue. If not dealt with quickly they tend to metastasize like cancer, then he will be looking for a job and it will be his fault.

lol. Go look at the blue chip ratio between both us and OSU. Then you will see how dumb your statement is.

Last year would have been a disaster with Nico, he was not anywhere ready. Could have ruined him with the expectations after 2022.

Why do you think we get railroaded next year?
If we learned anything this year it was Milton was the only sensible option in 2023. Nothing against the season Nico had this year but they don’t come close to win 9 games in ‘23 with him.

Go look at Alabama’s blue chip ratio. How’d we play that game this year? How moronic do you feel your statement is now? Hell I’d bet Florida has more talent on paper than we do. Of course there are talent gaps. Coaches find ways to win by schemes and plans or they don’t. Unfortunately losers like you just want to make excuses for losing and being okay with it instead of wanting more. Merry Christmas.

How many championships have you won?

Why does the team have so little talent? (I agree of course that he should be fired. Just rightfully nervous about the future)

The classic thing negavols do EVERY YEAR, when looking ahead.

Take every player and they’re ability and laterally move them to the next year with zero improvement.

Then claim we can’t count on any freshmen because they are too young.

Then make conclusions on transfers we haven’t even signed yet or know about.

That way every year we can see we’ll always be worse and feel justified in believing so.

Hate to break it to you that’s not how it works…for any team nor any program.

You just have low expectations.

I expected 7-5 the first year so he met expectations. In Year 2 I actually predicted we would go 10-2 with losses to Alabama and Georgia. We went 10-2 but lost to South Carolina after beating Alabama. So he met expectations in year 2 despite it being a little disappointing cause it could have been better. I thought we would be 10-2 or 11-1 last year so it was a major let down to go 8-4. And finally I had us going 11-1 to 12-0 this year so Huepel going 10-2 was a disappointment. Also I never thought we would get embarrassed the way we did against Ohio State.

So to me Huepel has been going downwards in terms of meeting expectations the last 2 years. Hopefully we're better in Year 5. But just cause you set your expectations low doesn't mean everyone else does. Some of us hold Tennessee to a higher standard.
So did Fulmer have one acceptable season or two? Does the SEC Championship meet your expectations or is it only when we win a national championship?

Don’t confuse high standards with delusional thinking.

I like the summary of expectations. Hooker, I believe, was just lightning in a bottle. Perfect storm of a player just getting hot. But also a great omen for the next 2 seasons. (Super talented QB, solid receiver group, and decent O line…. We had an atrocious defense for Hendon)

This year we had 0 NFL wr’s, and 0 1st round O line picks on the roster. Made the playoff.

Talent is an issue, put I also think receiver route combos were lacking. Nico’s eyes are coming down really quick due to the lack of clean pocket, need to roll and shorten the routes by 5 or so yards to get the ball out quicker.

Nico was the best player on the field offensively vs Ohio State. Gut tells me we have a Hendo like season next year out of Nico and some rando receiver has a Hyatt year.

I don't remember the Fulmer years before 2001 so I can't comment on them. But my standards are to win every single game every single season. Sure that's never going to happen. But that should be the standard for anyone driven to be great.
