what should he have done? Walked in the tying run?
I would not have given him a pitch to drive, up and inside or outside hoping for a cheap strikeout or at worst a fly ball that gives me a chance at the plate. Having already sent two yard, you know heā€™s on his game and the slam in the bottom of the 8th is a real hole.

Man, your dad would be ashamed that you know so little about this game. There were no outs and the bases juiced. No manager in Little League intentionally walks in the tying run much less big time baseball. Unbelievable!

I didnā€™t say 4 pitchouts, Iā€™m saying there would not be a fastball over the plate which pitch #1 was. I agree with @voll66 it was arrogance, he thought his pitchers ā€œstuffā€ was better than our hitters....and he found out different

No brother it was not a fastball. There was a lot that went into that at bat. Evan walked over and asked a coach how many breaking balls the new pitcher had gotten over for a strike before he went on deck. He watched the pitcher then struggle getting the fastball over and watched the pitcher flip a 1st pitch breaking ball in for strike 1 to Pav. He then hit Pav with a fastball, loading the bases. Evan went to the plate with an educated/professional approach. He even said post game ā€˜considering what he had done to Leiterā€™s fastball and Pavā€™s at bat, he was looking 1st pitch breaking ball and got itā€™.

All credit goes to Evan Russell for such a mature approach that started 2 batters prior to his at bat. Goes to show you that the game of baseball is at times truly a thinking manā€™s game.

Hats off to Evan Russell, what an incredible set of events that secured his name in the TN record books forever. He is a fkg LEGEND!!!

Despite being a VOL Chris certainly has been sniffing on vandie a bit much for my taste.

I completely get that. My blood runs orange and is an easy flash point when someone says anything good about Candy or Bummer, especially when it seems to continue.

That being said, I think Burke comes across more as respect than anything. It is hard for a commentator not to excessively praise what Corbin has done as well as the potential for the first two picked. Nine innings is a lot of time to fill

i recall 2001 series at Vanderbilt where Burke crushed the Dores. It was hilarious to see in Nashville.

If Roy Mewborne walked Burke, then Stevie Daniels hit a double or homer to drive him in. If they pitched to Chris then heā€™d hit the double or dinger for rbi. That series solidified the SEC POY for Chris and it was so enjoyable watching their fans melt down in person.
