...is no doubt today. I have been well known to be a solid Pearl supporter in many of the arguments to the point where I have been (incorrectly) labeled a "Pearl Fluffer". So, while I am certainly have not been one of those over-exuberant fans who possess a wholly unrealistic near sainthood-like reverence for Pearl, I have defintely been a solid and virulent backer of the coach from the time he was mentioned as a coaching target (I knew of him from my days at UWM). Therefore, today sucks in a number of ways and I feel an anger and disappointment as both a Pearl and Vol fan to the point where I even question Pearl as coach.

That said, I have no interest in cutting off my nose to spite my face. Unless, we are hit with USC-like sanctions, Pearl has made UT a solid program where top recruits are routinely looking into coming to Knoxville (Another reason for disappointment in that I'm not sure the violations were really "necessary" in the first place). I certainly don't want the most successful five years of UT history followed by a Todd Raleigh-like hire.

On another note, I've never included assistants in my many arguments in support of Pearl with good reason. They just don't do a whole lot for me. Now might be a good time to cut the fat, although I doubt it will happen.

I will agree with that. Get some assistants out of here, but keep Pearl.

Relax. He did something stupid then showed the integrity to turn himself in before he was even approached. He's being punished and we will move on. I didn't lose any respect for him. If anything I gained some for how he fell on his sword voluntarily.

Plain bullcrap. He only admitted wrong-doing because he knew that if he didn't come forward he wouldn't be coaching here anymore.

If you believe that's actually how things happened, you're going to be really, really disappointed when this thing reaches the finish line.

NCAA is crazy they are investigating half the country .. its pathetic that our baseball, basketball, and football are being looked into but doesn't mean we are screwed yet. We just have to wait and hopefully our football team will surprise and give us some positive news. GBO!! Beat those Ducks!!

Get rid of the assistants? Sure, let Tony Jones go and see how that works out. Him and Forbes are two of the best assistants around and would be very tough to replace.

You sir, are about to get grilled.

Why would anyone bother? Some ships are simply too big to sink.

As an aside, did you notice the typo in his name? Skipper would have smacked him with a hat.

A little editing did wonders for your post.

It will become obvious to anyone who can follow 2+2=4 what actually happened if you watch how the UT investigation and another active investigation play out.

I look at how the Athletic Department handed out a very harsh punishment and think "uh oh".

They are trying their hardest to please the NCAA, probably not going to cut it, the NCAA knows that everyone cheats to some degree. They probably accept that.

Being lied to though, is another thing.

Sorry, I don't buy that for a moment. I like Pearl, but I'm sure today's stuff was to save his own ass, a normal human reaction.

However, like I've said before, I don't care one bit about him being a good guy, whether or not he cheated on his wife, screwed some unbalanced woman in an Italian restaurant, filmed March of the Penguins 2 during the summer contact period or rescues homeless puppies in his off time. All I care about is results, along with not screwing over the program along the way. So, I've certainly been happy in this regard thus far, but that could change his status in my mind.

In any event, I don't care what his intentions were today, I care about what happens.

Robert Alan Hale will lay his pimp hand upon him.

whatever he lied about, here's a grown man who either went into the interview unaware that the questions might be asked or knowingly lied thinking he could get away with it ... not good either way

Something about this case screams Kelvin Sampson case to me.

I really hope it wasn't as sad as the first one. That was just depressing.

I have seen a few act like Pearl did some noble thing by coming forward, remember that he did so after lying.

He admitted it before they called him out.

Nothing honorable in that.
